The Infusion Nurses Society, located in Norwood, MA, is a national nonprofit
organization founded in 1973.
INS –INDIA
INS India – Is an international affiliate of INS, US. formed by a group of like-minded
healthcare professionals, as they joined hands to standardize infusion therapy practices
in the Country
Membership is open to all healthcare professionals from all practice settings who are
involved in or interested in the specialty practice of infusion therapy. INS is dedicated to
advancing the delivery of quality therapy to patients, enhancing the specialty through
stringent standards of practice and professional ethics, and promoting research and
education in the infusion nursing practice.

Infusion Nurses Society- India Chapters
With the successful launch of INS-India, an affiliate of INS –US, focus is to raise
standards in Infusion Therapy. The vision is to exceed the public’s expectations of
excellence by setting the standard for infusion care, by developing and disseminating
standards of practice, providing professional development opportunities and quality
education, advancing the specialty through evidence-based practice and research,
supporting professional certification in alignment with the vision and mission of INS-US.
To increase the reach of INS India across millions of nurses across the country, INS city
forums are established. The INS Chennai City forum was incepted and declared open
on 14th December 2012 at the 5th International Nursing Conference of Apollo Nursing
College, Chennai by Ms. Punitha Singh, Nursing Director-Apollo Hospitals, Chennai,
and Governing Council member of INS, India. The inauguration and the conference
were attended by over 387 delegates from 23 premier educational and service
institutions from in and around Tamilnadu, Kerala, Pondicherry and Andhra Pradesh.
Launch of Chennai – INS- India, City forum
On the IV Nurses day, 25th January 2013, INS Bangalore city forum was launched by
the Governing council members. There were more than 270 participants from various
hospitals across Bangalore. The event has further increase the awareness of Infusion
specialty among nurses and encouraged them to be a part of the society.
Launch of Chennai – INS- India, City forum
On the 30th of Jan 2013, the INS Kolkata city forum was launched, where more than
130 participants from major hospitals and nursing colleges were present. Four infusion
teams from different hospital presented their data on intravenous complications,
catheter indwelling time etc., reflecting vialon catheters having greater indwelling time
and lesser complication rate. Mrs.Madhukari Ray shared the details on INS-India and
the way forward. The Infusion nurses were felicitated with “Infusion Nurse” badge. The
program was culminated by candle lighting and pledge ceremony to symbolize
knowledge sharing and standardization of practices.
Launch of Kolkata – INS- India, City forum
NS Delhi Forum had a big bang launch on 8th of June 2013 at Max Hospital, Saket,
New Delhi, with the support from Col Saravjeet Kaur and Capt. Ajitha. The event had a
great response with over 220 Nurses from various leading hospitals from Delhi and
NCR. There was an overwhelming response from the nursing fraternity on the
importance
of
INS
for
nursing
community.

These city forums mark the beginning of a culture of safety that will be based on best
practices and standards. Similar forums will go a long way in spreading awareness of
safe infusion practices. Till date about 470+ nurses are enrolled with INS India. As a

As an initial and major step towards, building the credibility of INS India, Governing
Council members and many like- minded professionals have taken up the task of
reviewing INS Standards of Practice – 2011, in order to customize them as per Indian
healthcare practice settings. The team has suggested changes, which are submitted to
the Governing Council for finalization. After finalizing, INS, US will endorse the
standards. The growth of the infusion nursing specialty continues with the advances in
practices and technology. And as that role strengthens and grows, INS will remain
committed to providing the educational opportunities and resources to support members
and the specialty. INS India will offer certification courses in infusion therapy.
Certification courses ensure that nurses keep abreast of developments within the field, it
also helps by implementing protocols & policies in the hospital & position as an expert
resource for colleagues & hospital. Patients tend to be satisfied with the quality of care,
when provided by certified nurses. Nurses who are certified have higher perceptions of
empowerment and therefore improve work effectiveness, demonstrate commitment to
infusion nursing specialty. INS India is gearing up for the 2nd National Conference, to
be organized in the capital city of the Nation, New Delhi at Dr. RML Hospital, on 20th
and 21st September 2013. A cluster of international and national faculties will share
their knowledge and expertise in the field of Infusion Therapy, Critical care, Patient
Safety and Health Care Professionals Safety to the participating delegates. The
conference will have several scientific sessions, workshops and panel discussion,
covering various imperative aspects in Infusion therapy. With robust structure of City
forums, India specific Standards on Infusion therapy and Certificate courses for nurses,
INS India will act as a catalyst to upgrade infusion practices in India, which shall help
strengthen BDs image as a pioneer in providing not only best products, but taking steps
to upgrade practices, which is truly aligned with the organizations purpose of “Helping
all people Live Healthy Lives”.
Launch of INS Kerala South Zone Forum
After being established in the four metro cities of India, INS India is now taking roots in
the ‘land of nurses’, in Kerala. The launch of ‘INS Kerala South Zone Forum’ was held
on 21st of June, 2014 in KIMS hospital, Trivandrum and was officially inaugurated by
Prof. Latha. R, the Registrar of Kerala Nurses Midwives Council. The inauguration was
attended by the nursing leaders from various hospitals in Trivandrum, Kollam and
Pathanamthitta districts of Kerala
