Impeachment
From insulting tweets on Twitter to threatening a third Civil War, President Donald
Trump has created a massive amount of controversy throughout his entire presidency. After
Trump was elected President in 2017, rumors quickly spread that he cheated during the election.
Three years later, those speculations finally lead to Trump’s upcoming impeachment. Although
Frank Bruni and Matt Stevens, authors from New York Times Newspaper, share the same
perspective of pushing for President Donald Trump’s impeachment, their opinions start to differ
on whether the American people or Trump benefit from the outcome.
Frank Bruni’s and Matt Stevens’s articles both agree with the notion that President
Trump deserves to be impeached because of his display of shameful actions and unnecessary
behaviors. According to Frank Bruni, “From the moment that Trump stepped into the office of
the presidency, he has degraded it — with words that a president has no business speaking (or
tweeting); with ceaseless lies; with infantile and often unhinged behavior...” Contrary to Frank
Bruni, Matt Steven states, “Trump is the most corrupt president in the history of this country.”
Trump is an important and influential figure, but his exhibition of immature behaviors continue
to be ubiquitous in the media.
Although he sees good reasons for Trumps impeachment, Frank Bruni believes that
citizens should be hesitant because of the large amount of attention it will generate. That
attention will only be a product of Trump’s antics. According to Frank Bruni, “Impeachment

should terrify you because it would mean a continued, relentless, overwhelming focus on
Trump’s lawlessness, antics, fictions and inane tweets.” Bruni believes that Trump will use the
spotlight to paint a modest and victimized picture on himself to the public. That attention will
continue to overshadow the important matters that American citizens unfortunately face today.
According to Frank Bruni, “Where’s the infrastructure plan that we’re a quarter-century late in
implementing? Where are the fixes to a health care system whose problems go far beyond the
tens of millions of Americans still uninsured?” There are more important matters to attend to
such as education, the never-ending battle for immigrants, or the bettering of the American
people.
Matt Stevens believes that Trump’s corrupt actions should come with a price impeachment. During the 2017 election, the major rule that President Trump broke was
communicating with outside sources. According to Matt Stevens, “… we have a president…who
is prepared to hold back national security money…to get dirt on a presidential candidate…”
Stevens believes that this impeachment will show Trump, and future Presidents to come, that
there are serious consequences when it comes to acting above the law.
In conclusion, though it will receive large amounts of publicity, both Frank Bruni and
Matt Stevens gave valid reasons as to why Trump deserves to be impeached. Our current
President has displayed unethical behaviors that should never be shown from his public position.
