It reflects contemporary life and culture wich is still changing. There are several events in history and developments in literature: Radio started to become popular. 1920 1940 • A big emigration to USA. • Woman who worked during the war got back to their households. The 80% of them wanted to keep working. • After working, woman saw their own capacity and this 1945 created feminism. • Contemporary period started. • Television became more popular and people from everywhere could see the news from all over the world. • • • • Illegal immigration started Refugees weren’t seen as victims anymore. Anger, hate and racism started. Confessional poetry. 1950 • Martin Luther King hold his famous speech “I have a dream”; it had a big influence in the world. • Love not hate! 1963 1965 • • • • Facebook was released and everyone shared opinions and ideas. Technology open easy doors for people to communicate with others. Sexton’s poems staring showing up. People with low status and minorities started to have voice and potential of making changes. 2004 • Voting rights acts leading to less racism and segregation • The movement of third wave of feminism focus on individual identity. • Literature is more open than before. • Clear develop of the literature style. • Talking about yourself became acceptable in literature. • People became more open minded, so authors started to write about sex, love and feminism. • The breaking up of universalism breaking the idea of living apart resulted a new free set of minds. NOW Before the contemporary period, what the readers would think was told by the author, but you can think of many different interpretations and everything is actually not told by the section but you have a power.
