List the hazards.
Include during
normal activities
and also nonnormal but
foreseeable events
(e.g. spills, leaks
and releases)
Write down the
existing precautions
you use.
Evaluate the risk
(high, medium or
low) thinking of
both the likelihood
of harm (the
chances of it
happening) and its
severity (how bad
would it be if it
occurred)?
Check any HSE or
industry guidance
on the materials
you use to
benchmark the
precautions you
take. Talk to
operators and staff
and get their views
too.
List the actions your
assessment has
been found to be
needed. Good
practice is to
allocate a number
to each so that you
can track it. Make
sure someone is
tasked to complete
the action by an
agreed date.
