Jordan: Oh, it was amazing. I like large
parties. They’re so intimate. At small
parties there isn’t any privacy. Also,
you get meet interesting and
sometimes weird individuals.
Interviewer: Is that so? That’s what I
would expect from a party in West Egg.
Tell me more about these weird
individuals.
Jordan: There were many. I remember
seeing Gilda Gray’s from the
‘Follies’ but she seemed quite different,
she was the first one on the canvas
platform. She had courage. I saw a redhaired young lady from a famous
chorus singing but she was weeping at
the same time, isn’t that weird? Finally,
I saw a man with enormous owl-eyed
spectacles, he was by far the most
weird and stupid of them all.
Interviewer: When I think of a man
with big spectacles, I often associate it
with intelligence, what did he do?
Jordan: I saw him at the library,
amazed by how all the books had
words inside them. He suggested that
that Gatsby’s whole life is merely a
show and that the party is just a well
thought theatrical representation.
We happened to find the beautiful, professional golfer Jordan Baker at
the end Gatsby party, here is the interview:
Interviewer: Hello Ms. Baker, could you tell me a little about yourself, perhaps,
explain some traits of your inner self?
Jordan: Oh! Such a difficult question to answer; people usually don’t think
about themselves. I can tell you this: I am a professional golf player, some
people may say that I have a ‘superiority complex’; I don’t like possessive, and
clever men; and I like Jazz. Is that enough? I am out of ideas.
Interviewer: That’s more than perfect. How do you feel in respect to your loss
in the finals last week, do you feel that it will damage your public image?
Jordan: I feel I little bit disappointed the judges weren’t fair at all. The winner
was a girl that barely knew how to play. Probably she had some connection
with people in East Egg or maybe I just had bad luck. Hahaha.
Interviewer: Lets keep the interview out of the economic differences. Let’s talk
about what everyone is waiting for: Gatsby’s party.
What a weird man! Later, I saw him
again, this time outside the mansion.
He didn’t know how to drive but still
got behind the wheel. He hit a wall
and one of the wheels was detached
from the impact. At least half a dozen
curious chauffeurs went to the scene.
They are the perfect example of the
men nowadays. Nonetheless, this let
me to a thought, there were people
that were not invited. I could tell by
their faces, specially a group of
Englishmen. Although they were well
dressed, they acted strange, almost if
they were looking for help.
Interviewer: What about the décor—I
suppose Gatsby mansion looks nice,
the music, and the food?
Jordan: There were several hundred
feet of canvas and uncountable
colored lights. About the food it was
a buffet, nothing uncommon. The
music was quite good, a whole
orchestra and operas of voices
performed and happy dances follow
them. Old men dancing with young
girls in circles, superior couples
holding each other tortuously.
Interviewer: Do you like to dance Ms.
Baker? If so, why?
Jordan: I do but in certain circumstances.
Is a good way the let go of your problems
but, in the party there where only old
men pushing young girls backward in
eternal graceless. That’s not what I am
looking for.
Interviewer: Did alcohol had an important
role in the party? What type of drinks
were present?
Jordan: Just as usual, people got drunk
and lost sense of decision, this let them to
embarrass themselves in front of possible
connections. Gins and liquors, cocktails,
and champagne were abundant
Interviewer: What about Gatsby, did you
talk to him?
Jordan: You see, he is a mysterious man.
He doesn’t want any trouble with
ANYbody. I did hear a few rumours; they
say he killed a man once and that he was
a German spy on the war.
Interviewer: Is any of them reliable?
Jordan: He’s not a spy, because he was in
the American army during the war.
Although, he told me once that he was an
Oxford man. However, I don’t believe it.
Interviewer: Thank you, Ms. Baker.
