TODAY’S NEWS
WELCOME TO CAMP Y’ALL
Deep in the heart of Texas children are gearing up for summer and what
better way to spend it than at camp. When you think of summer camp you
probably think of things like swimming and hiking, so the last thing that pops
up are wheelchair ramps and specially crafted floating devices. Here at
Children’s Associate for Maximum Potential, or CAMP for short, Summer
camp is made available for children, teens, and young adults who live with
disabilities. This specially equipped summer camp has all sorts of cool
modifications so their CAMPERS can get the most out of their summer
vacation. With on-sight nurses and medical staff and numerous volunteers,

Camp is guaranteed to make sure each of its
guests have a fun and safe experience.
When did this happen and why didn’t I
know about this? Are questions that have
probably popped in your head by now. CAMP
was founded by 1979 by a group of US Air
Force Pediatricians who brought a group of
children with special needs to a weekend camp
after every other summer camp turned them
away. Their cause eventually led them to
purchase their own camp where they invite
children and their family to their very own
summer camp filled with summer fun,
excitement, and most importantly open arms.
CAMP offers an annual summer camp in
the hill country of Texas, but they work doesn’t
stop there. Throughout the year CAMPERS and
their families can partake their other events in
the city of San Antonio. Two of their offered year
round programs are Parents Night Out (PNO)
where parents can leave their children with
CAMP volunteers for an evening of fun, movies,
and other activities, and Teens and ADULT Day Adventures (TADA) which
takes CAMPERS out to various locations for a few hours of fun at locations
like Morgan’s Wonderland and even Spurs Game’s.
Of course this does come with a small
membership fee of $60, but is that really a high
price to pay for memories that will last a
lifetime? If the article sparked your interest
about CAMP’s work you can find more detailed
information at their website, campcamp.org,
such as how to get your child with a disability
involved, how to volunteer and become a
CAMP helper, and/or even if you would like to
make a donation to their cause.
