Community Serwice Opportunity:
Identify three different organizations in your community or neighboring community that does outreach
work. Provide the name of a contact for each site. phone number. u'ebsite or e-mail if applicable, address
and short description of the service provided. Submit the list on Blackboard (discussion board-lO
points), numbering the three in order of preference.
Each student
will then
choose one communitv sen'ice oppo(unity to complete. Students may volunteer
at a local soup kitchen, work with special needs children, provide selice to the elderly. or other countless
opportunities. The experience must be AT LEAST 6 contact hours. While on site, you will interview one
other volunteer/employee, extending past the 6 contact hours. Upon completion, a paper will be written
outlining the experience and providing a summary of the service. as well as knowledge gathered from the
interview. Items to address include, but are not limited to what was expected prior to completing the
service, what actually happened, what you expected to gain from the experience, what you actually gained
from the experience, what service did you provide the organization, description of the type of person you
assumed you would be assisting and description of the people you worked with. Papers should be 2 pages
in length and typed according to APA standards which can be found at

be graded with a scoring guide provided (below) by the instructor. (MOSPE
Standards: 1.5, 2.1, 2.5, 2.6,5.3, Introductory)
