April Raintree essay - foster care In April Raintree, her and her sister Cheryl, didn’t grow up in a good home, their parents couldn’t look after them as good, April and Cheryl were sent to different foster homes. April was sent to Dion's and then to the DeRosier’s, while Cheryl was sent to the MacAdams, and was later sent to the Derosier’s because she wanted to be with April. April was sent to a foster home, they were the Dion's, they treated April like she part of the family. Then Mrs. Dion got sick to the point where they couldn’t look after April anymore, then she was sent to a different foster home, the DeRosier's, they didn’t treat April the kindest, Mrs. DeRosier made April do most of the chores in the house. As for Cheryl, she was sent to a foster home, they were the MacAdam's, they also treated Cheryl like she was part of the family, they gave Cheryl a horse to look after while she was there, they gave her things she never had before. But then she wanted to be with April, so Mrs. Semple put Cheryl with April at the DeRosier house. At the DeRosier house, both April and Cheryl were abused, Mrs. DeRosier cut off both of their hair, they were bullied by Maggie and Ricky, they were hit with the strap by Mrs. DeRosier when they “didn't” do anything right or if they didn't listen to her. Everything happened to them the little time Cheryl was there. But April protected her the best she could. When April couldn't take the bullying anymore, she and Cheryl ran away, they wanted to go back to their original home, and so they did try, they were too tired to go any further, then they were caught by the RCMP. Both April and Cheryl didn’t want to go back to the DeRosier house. As a result, April and Cheryl were put in foster homes, they had the good and bad times, sometimes worse, but they got through it all, they stayed strong, they did everything they could to help each other and to stay with each other, both of them also graduated from high school.
