ENGAGEMENT Play a game of HANGMAN for students to uncover the topic of the day. After all the letters have been revealed, explain that the lesson will be focused on parts of speech. Invite students to share the different parts of speech they have been exposed to and list their responses on the board. EXPLORATION Invite students to comment on the function of each part of speech. After students have explained the parts of speech, ask students to suggest the sample sentences and allow them to identify each word’s part of speech. EXPLANATION Introduce the term “article” to students and explain what articles are and their purpose with use of “a”, “an” and “the” in sample sentences. Highlight how each article functions differently. ELABORATION Work collaboratively with students to analyze sample sentences in which a word;’s part of speech may change depending on the sentence in which it is placed. EVALUATION 1
