Spelling lists
How to use the Spelling lists
These spelling lists are a supplement to the Spelling spreads at the back of the Learner’s Book. They are a teacher
resource and can be used at your discretion.
The 18 lists, each with 15 words per list, provide examples of words following particular letter patterns or spelling
rules. They are not organised as lists to be learned per week; rather they are for you to draw on for reference or
to prepare as lists for display in the classroom, for example, although groups of spelling words may be given as a
learning / homework task if this fits in with your school’s philosophy of teaching spelling. Drill is just one element of
learning to spell and progress cannot be measured according to whether a prescribed set of words can be written out
correctly in a test, out of context.
Notes for a suggested spelling session are provided on page 7.
