Why are you interested in studying abroad? What do you believe are the benefits of learning about
and interacting with different cultures?

one year ago, I went to a scholarship called Education First. we learned something called Comfort Zone.
this is the zone that we feel safe and comfortable like our friends or family, but there is another zone
called danger zone, this is the zone that we feel unsafe like a new school or different experience, but
solely try this different experience you will increase your comfort zone. I interested in studying abroad
to increase my comfort zone by taking a new challenge. New friends, new culture. I want to go outside
of my comfort zone and try to live a new adventure. the second thing is learning a new language. a new
country means a new language with its native speakers. I am a sociable person; I want to move outside
to learn new things and make new friends and studying abroad will help me in making friends. studying
abroad will give me the chance to be independent. of course, I love my family, but I want to manage my
life as I wish. the most important thing about studying away from my country is knowing and living with
different cultures. the benefits of interacting with other cultures are 1- Accepting diversity, not all the
world is Egyptian and has the same culture and habits, so interacting with other cultures will make me
more acceptable to their habits and diversity between us.
2- I am a curious person that wants to discover and know new things. so new cultures mean new
delicious food, new activities, and a new look about life, a look from their culture not from mine.
Describe your interest and background in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). What
makes you a great candidate for this program? This is an opportunity to tell us about your STEM
coursework, school activities, hobbies, awards, and/or other, but please answer as an essay and not
with a list or CV.
INSTRUCTION: Please answer the following essay question. Your answer must be between 700 - 1500
characters (including spaces). Once you click “submit” your answer is considered final and cannot be
changed. You are also not able to save a draft of your answer so you may want to draft it in a separate

STEM is a fantastic word that contains Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. "Science is
organized knowledge." I admire science especially chemistry and Biology. this love does not stop at only
the subject in the school, I entered the Neuroscience competition called Brain Bee, and rise to the
national competition of Intel ISEF in the chemistry branch. I always get free time for reading in science
and find answers to my questions, this gives me a good knowledge that makes me qualified for a
scientific question competition called Science WI-FI. in the school, we made Biology club and organize
Biology day to help students in biology concepts. A film called “the truth about the killer robots". this
film was talking about that the robots will kill the humanity and take their jobs, this thing I always
wondering "could this happen one day", in the film they were talking about something called AI
"Artificial intelligence", so I started reading about it, learned Arduino and start making robots(Maze
robot and line-Follower robot) and entered a competition for robotics race and Entered NASA Space
Apps Cairo 2020 by an Arduino project. learned some programming languages(python, C, HTML, and
CSS) and make an event Called Code-It for teaching people programming. I love Math and logic thinking,
in my free time, I solve some math problems and IQ tests, I participated in the International Kangaroo
Math competition.
When thinking about participating in a study abroad program with other students from around the
world, what challenges might you and/or the group face and how would you overcome these
challenges?

Eating food from my mum, playing games with my brothers and friends, and talking with my family in
front of the fire all these things will be missed there. Homesickness, this is the first challenge we will
meet in studying abroad. we will miss our family and friend, the community that helps us in difficult
situations. we can overcome this by making new friends, new family, and new community. we will forget
this by making our day busy with tasks of studying and activities with friends. the second challenge is the
trouble that we will fall in because of unawareness of the country's laws. each one comes from different
countries with different laws, so when we go to another country they have other laws, you can make
something normal in your country but unnormal in their country and this is made to you embarrassment
or money amercement. so, you have two solutions: the first one is reading their constitution or knowing
more about people from videos or news. the second solution is watching the native citizens what they
do and make like them. After adaptation to this country and their laws, making new community and
friends we will find the reverse of the first challenge. when we leave after studying, we will refuse
because we adapt to this new country and make a new community here, so we will be very sad because
of returning to our country. we can solve this problem by adapting to the old community. other
problems can solve with time and adaptation like language.
What global, national, and/or local community challenge do you most wish you could help solve? How
could you use STEM to help find a solution?

The Earth is a watery place. About 71 percent of the Earth's surface is water-covered, but only 2.5
percent of it is fresh. and the guilty humans are wasting this 2.5 percent without conscious of dangerous
of this consumption, I am talking about the consumption of freshwater. we are wasting freshwater in
things for doing tasks can be done by salty water like washing our hand, cars or dishes, taking shower,
Leaky pipes, Running the water while brushing your teeth, and even more. these bad habits will not
affect only humans but affect all living organisms in the world. Imagine that one day this freshwater is
finished, there will not be water for plants to make their food, so they will die and animals will die
because they fed on these plants and leave us alone without food or freshwater, so we will die too.
using STEM in solving this problem by using Engineering in constructing dams to save water and
generating electricity, making like a system that makes a range of gallons to each home per month by
using technology like Arduino and using math algorithm in programming this system. using science by
making salty water drinkable water. like in chemistry evaporation and condensation of the water.
