Part I: Reading and note-taking

Read chapter and take substantial notes throughout the chapter on the following items

a double-entry journal, but you need to show that you are critically examining the text.

C. Examine Tom and Wilson’s interactions
D. Chart the emotional state of Tom and Daisy (not together, necessarily)
E. Chart the decline of Gatsby’s dream

Summary:
Writer’s Purpose:
Portray a section of chapter 7 (a page or two or a few pages) from the POV of Myrtle, Daisy,
Tom, Gatsby, Wilson, or a minor character or inanimate object.
Your task is to compose a short, creative writing (1 ½-2 pages typed) from the perspective of a
character in Gatsby other than Nick.
To imagine what a character thinks and feels based on the events in the novel and the prior
knowledge one has of that character.
Criteria
Include 3 quotations from the chapter.
Change punctuation/ pronouns/ etc to make sure the quotations fit seamlessly.
Assessment
Content: Primary Source Quotations (PSQ) Effectively capture the essence of character
emotions (have CHARGED language) and are embedded smoothly
Capture the essence of the character through word choice and actions
A RAFT assignment means you can be creative with your delivery. You do not need to write in the style
of the novel, but you should capture the essence of the speaker.
Label the top of your first page with this information:
Role of the Writer: Who are you as the writer?
Audience: To whom are you writing?
Format: In what format are you writing? (A diary entry? A newspaper? A love letter?)
Topic: What are you writing about?
