Homework Assignment 3: Friday 11/15/2019 Intro: Drifting in heart of historic Mount Holly is where the Superior court of Burlington County located at 49 Rancocas Road, Mount Holly, NJ 08060 represents Law, Order, & Justice. This is where the truth and lies are determined by the superior guardians of this great courthouse throughout Burlington County involving many cases such as Criminal, Family, and Civil. Observing Burlington’s County’s motto with pride it is mentioned they strive to protect our communities by ensuring justice is served to our victims as well fairness to the Defendant. As you enter the court room seeking information that may be crucial & hearing the cases there are many superiors in the courtroom that include Judge, Prosecutor, Defensive Attorney, & Sheriff. As the courtroom prepared to present the sentencing of a defendant whom was indicted of 2nd degree endangering welfare of a child, curiosity began to take a turning point as soon the judge walked into the courtroom for the defendant’s sentencing. There in the courtroom began the case of a teacher, 31 years of age who had been accused of having an inappropriate misconduct with a student underage for two years. Being the defendant was the victim’s teacher during her education years in high school it was a shock to the community whom they expressed teachers are to be trusted with their children. It was mentioned that the victim admits the misconduct occurred before her 18th birth while a student of the teacher. With regrets, sat the defendant in mist of thinking while hearing the prosecutor outlined evidence that played a role in the teacher’s misconduct. As the prosecutor referenced key facts with regards to this case, the defendant had taken responsibility from the get-go as soon his criminal accusation began. The Defendant who was indicted in this case had no criminal history and was well respected in his community such as family, friends, & fellow colleague before the incriminating case against him. Being a former teacher, unfortunately had to forfeit his teaching credentials from this accusation. It was a negotiate plea between the Prosecutor, Judge, & Defense attorney in order to provide the defendant a reduced sentenced term from a 10 to 5 years State prison. Although his sentencing could have been harsher, he could have the possibility of parole if he serves minimum 12 months to 15 months in state prison. If the Defendant presents a plead to the court after serving his mandatory time in prison a decision by the court will be made upon the court’s review of this case. Shifting in the courtrooms are a team of great professionals that honor our justice system In which many opinions and views deliberate among the victim and defendant. Although it may be decisive to decide the fate of a person’s case may be the key to making sure justice is served. We must be able to always prove evidence of a case is what the defendant would be punished for and to make sure his consequences are met with consistent facts and pertinent material. Such an interesting mindset when seeing the prosecutor memorize the state’s code pertaining to criminal offenses enable one’s mind to be able to think how important is justice in our nation generally. It is such joy to witness and think how one’s actions can turn into a overnight nightmare.
