If you carried out an experiment with marble chips and
hydrochloric acid, using the same size and mass of
marble chips, the same temperature but different
concentrations of acid, what would you expect to
happen?
• At lower concentrations of acid the time taken for the gas to
be produced will be slower compared to higher
concentrations of acid. The reason for this is a more
concentrated acid will have more particles of hydrochloric
acid in a given amount of space. This means that there will
be more frequent collisions between hydrochloric acid
particles and calcium carbonate particles.
