Important Definitions for Compliance Training
Non-compliance=failure to follow through on a task requested by
adult. Behaviors may include darting and/or eloping form
immediate area, dropping to the ground, pushing away materials,
throwing materials, resistance to physical prompting, repeated nonpurposeful gestures following demands, and taking off clothes.
It is considered 1 incidence of non-compliance when these
behaviors occur continually before there has been compliance for
at least 10 secs.

Beginning Stages:
 Obsessively looking/staring at something
 Doesn’t want to stop/leave the item/activity
Over-aroused:
 Laughing loudly without break (continuous) to the exclusion
of any other activity
 Throwing things
 Cycling through his pecs book-asking for everything
 Jerking body motions
 Slithering out of seat
 Increased non-compliance
 Tries to stand up on chair or table
*It’s important not to stop an activity because Ryan is emitting
the behaviors listed—but rather physically prompt him to
engage in the activity appropriately.*
