PAPER CRHOMATOGRAPHY - The art of separating mixtures – Objective: find out which dyes are present in color markers. Materials: Coloring markers Filter paper (or paper towels) Scissors Alcohol (or water) Small beakers (or glasses) Tape Procedures: 1. Cut several strips of filter paper about a 2 cm wide 15 cm high. 2. Choose a color to draw a big dot 2 cm from the bottom of one strip. 3. Tape the strip to a pencil so it hangs down into the cup. 4. Pour alcohol into the cup until it is just barely touching the bottom of the paper strip. 5. Leave the strip hanging in the water until the color has traveled most of the way up the strip. 6.
