For starters, I love travelling. Even though preparation process like packing my clothes and booking tickets are awful for me and it makes me completely apathetic about going anywhere, I still love it. I hanker after travelling around the globe, visiting every country and its capital. And while I’m still planning and saving up my money for my would-be journeys, one Ukrainian daredevil had already visited such exotic places on our planet, which you might never see for yourself. His name is Dmytro Komarov and his famous brainchild is the program ‘Upside down world’. Dmytro has never been a presenter. He studied journalism, he worked as a photographer in newspapers and magazines, but at no time had he ever hosted a TV-show. Speaking of his hobbies, he was completely into travelling; he used to travel alone, with his camera and a burning desire to literally absorb the beauty of jungles, seacoasts and abandoned towns. Once upon a time, he came up with an novel idea to film his expeditions and show them to those who can’t afford to fly overseas and end up on the opposite side of the planet. So, he set off on a trial run to Cambodia with a camera operator to make a pilot program. After weeks of nerve-wracking wait for a decision of a producer, his show was approved, Dmytro embarked on it in no time and therefore, hit the big time. Interestingly, the crew of the program consists only of 2 people – the cameraman and Dmytro, who is a director, a presenter and a screenwriter simultaneously. They spend months on the road, visiting the most exhilarating festivals, taking part in local celebrations and simply communicating with new people. I was dazzled when I saw for the first time how easily Dmytro finds a common ground with people whose language he doesn’t know. He can haggle with greedy sellers successfully, he is ready to make a concession or a compromise when it is necessary and he can even bluff if he is about to have problems with local criminals. His hard work paid him off and he shot to fame immediately and became a legend in his lifetime. Indeed, he didn’t have a stroke of luck, Dmytro wasn’t simply meandering through the towns and villages and enjoying his life. He had to pay his dues, like eating insects, snakes or drinking blood, in order to make locals trust him and reveal their secrets. And this example is only a minuscule scrap of things he came through in almost 10 years. To sum up, Dmytro is now held in high esteem and renowned not only for his journeys, but for his charisma, determination and courage. He heads straight for hidden and the least visited places on earth and gains a valuable learning experience there. He is a true globetrotter – he travels off the beaten track and inspires others do the same. And I’m not an exception.
