OVERVIEW
OVERVIEW
King Kong Cash / Setup and Configuration (APL based)
Preface
King Kong Cash is a new 4-level progressive link from
Atronic. It is a licensed product from UNIVERSAL Studios.
The game concept of King Kong Cash is a successor of
CASH FEVER™, with an improved bonus concept. When
entering the King Kong Cash Bonus, the player has to
choose a scene from the movie to reveal 5, 7 or 10
free games (special reelstrip & special symbols).
Depending on the amount of credits won during this
free game session, one out of 4 jackpots will be
awarded. Additionaly a mystery trigger randomly
awards credits or a King Kong Cash Bonus entry.
King Kong Cash is driven by Atronic's unique internal,
in-machine, progressive controller (APL™). This gives
the operator the option to operate each link without
any other equipment or infrastructure.
In addition King Kong Cash can be operated based on
any SAS based progressive controller/system locally
or multi-site. The setup for system based installations
is described in a seperate document named

OVERVIEW
GENERAL CONFIGURATION NOTES
King Kong Cash / Setup and Configuration (APL based)
When configuring a King Kong Cash installation, there
are a few things to consider:
Progressive Calculation
The King Kong Cash progressive parameters are
calculated by means of the Atronic Progressive
Calculation Sheet. During order processing you
received a copy of this calculation sheet which
determines the parameters for a particular King Kong
Cash installation. To avoid incorrect payout
percentages, please do not use any other values than
stated in this document. If an alteration of the progressive parameters becomes necessary, please ask
your local sales represantative for a recalculation.
Base Values
The base values of the lower three progressive jackpot
levels is not adjustable, as they are essential elements
of the paytable. The base value of the highest progressive jackpot level has to be configured during set
up (see also section Jackpot Configuration on page
29). The excact value is stated in the Atronic Progressive Calculation Sheet. Recommended values are:
• Configuration Code 2001: 100.000 credits
• Configuration Code 2002: 100.000 credits
• Configuration Code 2003: 125.000 credits
Configuration Code
The Configuration Code is set during the initial setup
of each King Kong Cash game (see also section Machine
Setup / Initial Setup on page 27). It determines the
base values and the trigger values of the 3 lower progressive jackpot levels (minor, major, grand) and the
trigger frequency of the King Kong Cash Bonus. Do
not use any other Configuration Codes than stated in
the Atronic Progressive Calculation Sheet.
Jackpots Handpays
The threshold level for jackpot handpays is determined
by the Celebration Limit setting. A win that exceeds
this limit will trigger a jackpot handpay independent
from the progressive jackpot level that was hit. See
also section Machine Configuration / Celebration Limit
on page 37 or the corresponding Software manual.

SETUP
ATRONIC PROGRESSIVE LINK™
King Kong Cash / Setup and Configuration (APL based)
What is APL?
King Kong Cash links use Atronic Progressive Link™
(APL) technology to link the participating gaming
machines. APL provides a very simple way to link Atronic
games to a local area progressive.
Setting up a progressive using the APL is quite easy
as the internal progressive system is operated via the
Commboard of the machine. By simply linking directly
from one machine Commboard to another, up to 20
King Kong Cash games can be linked to a progressive.
The APL requires no external controller.
The APL is designed to be flexible and user friendly and
operates with one machine acting as the master and
the other machines in the link as slaves. The decision
about which game is the master is not pre determined
and can therefore be selected via a dipswitch on the
Commboard. More importantly if the master machine
fails, another machine in the link can be appointed as
the master via the dipswitch so no data is lost and
the progressive remaines active.
The entire set up of the progressive jackpot and
configuration for all the machines in the link is carried
out on the master machine via a connection between
a PC and the main board.
The progressive jackpot is automatically displayed via
a on screen meter (utilising e-motion™ dual screen
technology) and one or more plasma screens.

King Kong Cash / Setup and Configuration (APL based)
SETUP
This section describes how to connect the Media
Controller and the plasma/LCD display(s) and where to
situate the Media Controller.
General
The Media Controller is a small PC that provides video
animations and jackpot values which are displayed on
the plasma/LCD display(s). It comes with a pre-installed
Windows® XP Professional operating system (english
version required) and King Kong Cash display software.
Two displays and a audio device can be connected. The
mains voltage for the Media Controller is provided by
an Uninteruptible Power Supply (UPS).
The Media Controller receives the jackpot broadcasts
from the APL master machine. It is connected by a
RS485-to-RS232 converter and a small commboard
add-on board, the OH Displayboard.
Note: Although an APL slave
machine can send progressive
jackpot values to the Media
Controller, it has to be
connected to the APL master.
Only the APL master can send
the trigger signal to start the
jackpot hit presentation.
Media Controller Location
The Media Controller has to be connected to the APL
master machine. It is recommended to situate the
Media Controller and its UPS in the base stand of the
APL master machine.
Audio
Device
Important: The base stand or box where
the Media Controller is situated has to be
actively vented to prevent the Media
Controller from overheating.
The environmental temperature must not
exceed 40°C/104°F.

Signage Cabling
The VGA cable, the audio cable and the signage mains
cable is usually threaded through one of the posts that
hold the signage. You may need to temporarily remove
the signage mains plug to thread it through the post.
The plasma/LCD display(s) which are connected to the
Media Controller have to support a 1024 x 768 pixel
display resolution at 60 Hz with highest (32 bit) color
quality via VGA (RGB) or DVI connector.

MACHINE SETUP
King Kong Cash / Setup and Configuration (APL based)
This section describes how to carry out a RAM Reset
and the Initial Setup which is required to configure
basic machine settings and carry out jackpot
configuration.
Overview
Atronic machines usually come configured as specified
with the order. However it may be necessary to reconfigure basic machine settings, such as
denomination, metering, paytable, etc. These settings
can not be altered during normal operation, as they
require a machine reinitialisation for technical or
jurisdictional reasons. Applying new progressive jackpot
settings also requires a RAM Reset.
To re-configure basic machine and jackpot settings:
1. Perform a RAM Reset
This will clear all machine data, statistics and settings, including progressive jackpot configuration.
2. Carry out the Initial Setup
After a RAM Reset has been performed, the machine automatically enters the Initial Setup menu.
The Initial Setup allows to configure all basic machine setting.
3. Jackpot Configuration
After the Initial Setup has been carried out, it is
necessary to carry out the progressive jackpot configuration. Do not insert credits before the jackpot configuration is done.
In an APL link the jackpot configuration has to be
carried out at the APL master machine only. The
jackpot configuration is then transfered to all linked APL slave machines.

Service Menu
The Service Menu provides several settings and options
that can be adjusted during normal machine operation
(see overview on next page). To access the Service
Menu, open the main door and press the service button
at front of the logic box.
Recommended Service Menu Settings:
Celebration Limit
The celebration limit determines the threshold for
jackpot handpays. A win exceeding the celebration limit
initiates a win celebration and needs to be
acknowledged by an attendant using the jackpot key.
Important: A progressive jackpot win does
not automatically initiate a handpay! The win
amount has to exceed the celebration limit,
in order to initiate a jackpot handpay.
You may adjust the celebration limit settings to meets
the requirement of your operations.
Example: You want to have the lower three progressive jackpot levels machine paid and the highest progressive level hand paid.
1. Adjust the lower celebration limit to the base value of the highest progressive jackpot level (in currency).
2. Set the upper celebration limit to the same or a
higher value (the exact value does not matter in
this case).
3. Set the celebration limit destination to HANDPAY.
Sound and Volume Settings
If you use the background music and the sound effects
played by the Media Controller, you might wish to adjust
the game sound and volume setting.
Open the Service Menu and navigate to Settings /

If your display seems clipped or unproportional ("long
faces effect") try changing the zoom entry in the file
lingo.ini which is usually stored in D:\KingKongCash.
Change the line
--zoom_id=1
to
zoom_id=1
This will display the video sequences in their original
aspect ratio (width 1024 pixel, ratio 16:9).
Demo Mode
For demonstration purposes you can operate the Media Controller without a connected bank of slot
machines. In demo mode the jackpot meters are not
displayed. You will see only the video sequences.
To activate the demo mode change the demo_mode
entry in the file lingo.ini which is usually stored in
D:\KingKongCash.
Change the line
Demo_Mode=0
to
Demo_Mode=1

CHANGE APL MASTER MACHINE
King Kong Cash / Setup and Configuration (APL based)
This section describes how to change the APL master
machine in an APL link. This may be necessary, if the
primary master machine is defective or if the Media
Controller is to be connected to another machine.
1. Open the Jackpot Statistics menu (see section
"Jackpot Statistics") and write down all values.
2. Power down the primary APL master machine.
All machines in the link display "Master not ready"
and will be locked until a new APL master is configured.
3. Remove the Alink cabling from the primary master
machine and run the Alink cable to the next machine to close the Alink connection. See section "Cabling" for details.
4. Remove the cabling to the Media Controller and
the OH Displayboard from the commboard of the
primary master machine. If necessary you can now
remove the primary master machine from the floor.
5. Power down the machine which is to be configured
as the new master machine.
6. Set commboard DIP switch S5/4 to ON at the new
master machine. Install the OH Displayboard and
connect the Media Controller as described in section "Connect Media Controller".
7. Power up the new master machine.
When the new master machine is up, the entire
link should be operational. If any error message is
displayed, please refer to the section "APL Troubleshooting".
8. Open the Jackpot Statistics menu and verify all
jackpot values.
