October 2003 Carrier Holland Heating for New BBC Media Centre (Leatherhead, England, Sept. 24, 2003) – Carrier Holland Heating (CHH) will install 30 air handling units with a total order value of $1.54M in two buildings now under construction at the new Media Village development at White City in West London. A commercial subsidiary of the British Broadcasting Corp. (BBC), BBC Broadcast Ltd., which offers the complete range of services required to launch, promote, play out and manage broadcast channels will relocate its headquarters to the new Broadcast Center by the end of this year. Because of the wide variety of applications and the efficiency levels required to achieve BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Ltd.’s Environmental Assessment Method) ratings, reliability, energy efficiency and operating sound levels were all critical factors influencing the purchasing decision. Carrier Holland Heating’s ability to custom build units for installation in some tight spaces was also an important consideration. Twenty CHH air handlers, with a total capacity of 152 meters/second (m/s), serve the Broadcast Center. Eight supply and extract units, each with a capacity varying between 15.3 m/s and 22.5 m/s, are installed on the roof of the Media Center and distribute air down risers into a low level void on each floor. Air is then fed into the space via floor mounted swirl diffusers and extracted through the ceiling void. Comfort conditions within the space are maintained by passive chilled beams. Two further units each serve a toilet core. More orders to come When complete, this new Media village will bring broadcasting and production facilities together with public spaces and retail services as part of the regeneration of the White City area of West London. Later stages of the development will include a music center and a further office building. If the order for the Media Village weren’t enough, Carrier Holland Heating recently received orders valued at $310,000 to supply air handling plant for three more BBC projects – London’s landmark BBC building in Portland Place, as well as Edgdon House and Western House.
