Thesis Proposal TITLE: Immerse: Natural and Social Science - Grade 4 OPTION SELECTED: Curriculum Design SPECIFIC TOPIC EXPLAINED: Teaching Natural and Social Science through immersed activities Expected contribution to the field: Creative and fun themes are used to teach learners about Natural and Social Science. Learners will benefit from the hands-on activities and develop a greater knowledge of both subjects through a variety of assignments. Learners will benefit through a student-centered learning curriculum and gain additional knowledge of a variety of Natural and Social Science topics. Learners will learn about the various subjects while using the English language. Method of going about doing it: Students will learn about Natural and Social Science through task based activities. Students will learn material through a variety of studentcentered activities such as painting, video projects, role play, sculpture, songs, stories, newspaper projects, etc. Lessons will pertain to Natural and Social Science. Activities and task will be presented in an assortment of immersed themes. Students will learn new topics and material through: Tasked based activities Content Based Instruction Communicative approach Total Physical response What do you want to research? I want research Natural and Social Science topics for 4th graders. Why do you want to research it? Through personal experience and online articles, I have found learning is best done in fun, interesting and creative environments. By creating a student-centered curriculum, students will be able to learn about a variety of science topics all while using the English language. How do you plan to go about it? Students will learn about Natural and Social Science while using the English language. Throughout the course of a year, learners will partake in an assortment of tasked-based activities and learn about Natural and Social Science subjects. I will use past research, current course books and personal experiences and develop a curriculum that will aid students understanding of science topics all while using the English language. What is your possible hypothesis? By using a learner-centered approach, students will immerse themselves and gain better insight on Natural and Social Science topics thus increasing their understanding of the subject matter and better use of the English language. What might your research provide the field of teaching/education? Students will retain Natural and Social Science material better than traditional approaches. Through interesting, fun and creative activities, learners will gain hands-on knowledge of different subjects.
