CHAPTER 5 Lesson Preparation INTRODUCTION It’s the process of developing a lesson to suit - the personal styles of the teacher - needs of the students Preparation also involves - assembling resources - arranging classroom - establishing conducive environment to the learning process In preparation, a lecturer should: - prepare course outline - assess and select suitable teaching resources - prepare lesson plan(s) - assess and select suitable teaching methods - prepare lesson notes THE COURSE OUTLINE It’s a plan of action which should enable the lecturer to organize teaching activities It’s usually an interpretation of a course specification or course description It’s a plan of what will be covered in each week or session of the course A COURSE OUTLINE Supports communication and planning b/w the lecturer, students and departments It can be used to write lesson plans Give students an overview of the course Provides guidance to the lecturer Is a basic tool for monitoring tea - and – lea Provides a basis for long range planning DEVELOPING A COURSE OUTLINE In generally, the following are considered: Understanding the course description Preceding and succeeding course description content Existing course outlines for the course unit Reference materials and examinations Time estimation A WELL PREPARED COURSE OUTLINE SHOULD AMONG OTHER THINGS Show the course code and title Give an overview of the total course content Provide for a sequential listing of learning tasks Show a relationship b/w content and support materials
