We would like to thank you for your interest in our products, and welcome you among our catalogue readers. In the new publication of our catalogue, we aim to present an overview of our R&D, manufacturing and service activities of our company in the field of machine building.
In the first section of this brochure we would like to give you a historical introduction of NCT Ltd. It also outlines our R&D activities, technical services, after sales support and the activity of NCT Academy. The second section of our brochure presents the machine tools and accessories offered by us.
NCT’s core business is to develop and manufacture CNC controls and drive technology. However, it cannot be done efficiently without constant and close connection with machine manufacturers as well as the end users of the machines. NCT Ltd. works together with several significant Asian and European machine-tool manufacturers. The cooperation started by buying the mechanics of their machines, but nowadays we also take part in the development of their machines. The technical and market information received from our partners helps us to promote our products in the enormous Asian market, as well as in the
European and the US market where we could increase our market share.
We have been making great progress in building our own machines. At our new manufacturing facilities in the village Taksony, we improved our machine building capacity with a bed grinding machine one of the biggest and the most accurate ones in
Central Europe and a 5 axis machining centre. In a modern factory of 5400 sq.m. in Taksony, our excellent team of professionals is building a new Hungarian machine tool plant.
All the CNC machines offered by NCT Ltd. are equipped with electronics developed and built by our company. The electronic integration, optional accessories installation, start-up, testing, measurement and of course the warranty and non-warranty services are provided by NCT Ltd. for our Customers.
Together with development and manufacturing of machine tools, we develop and manufacture our CNC controls and drives being the part of them. So we can sense the demands of the end users and of our machine manufacturing activity, and any other requirements arising during testing machine tools. We produce our current products and provide our services considering environmental awareness, high speed and ultra-high precision.

Electronic R&D and manufacturing:
Our electronic research and development is concentrated on three main areas:
1. CNC
2. Drive technology (servo drives and servo motors)
3. Increasing speed, accuracy and operational efficiency of machine tools using electronic (hardware and software) devices
CNC: NCT 200 control family:
The evolution of electronics – faster microprocessors, internet, high-speed networks, mobile world, the endless range of PC peripheries and services – turned the ordinarily conservative industrial electronics upside down. These days a successful CNC is unthinkable without ETHERNET connection, high capacity memory, or a
PENDRIVE for saving machining programs or without any cursor control device
(mouse, touchpad, trackball, touchscreen).
The CNC software should be adapted to the usual management techniques of PC
(selection, copy, search, file management etc.) and file compatibility is essential for the portability of programs. To meet these requirements, the operating system
Windows Embedded developed for industrial automation is installed in our recent developments. The connection between the peripheries and the central unit is managed by the EtherCAT network (industrial ETHERNET) being a worldwide standard these days.
Servo drives:
NCT Ltd. produces synchronous and asynchronous servo drives and recuperative power supply units up to 75 kW. Due to the precise current and speed control achieved using DSP microprocessor and the software development based on experience gained in the field of drive technology for several decades, the NCT drives are at the forefront of the world as far as reliability, dynamics and precision are concerned. Our current servo drives connect to the controls through SoE standard protocol (SERCOS over EtherCAT).
Servo motors:
We develop and produce servo motors in three sizes and with torque range from
1 Nm up to 70 Nm. These servo motors are characterized by excellent dynamics and precise speed control from standing up to maximum value. In basic configuration, NCT machine tools equipped with NCT 201 control are manufactured with
HEIDENHAIN EnDat 2.2 absolute multiturn measuring system (EQN 1337, EQI
1331).
Built-in spindle:
The most accurate and dynamic machine tool spindles are built-in spindles, where the spindle is the rotor shaft of the motor at the same time.
ADVANTAGES OF BUILT-IN SPINDLE AGAINST CONVENTIONAL BELT DRIVE:
- Higher dynamics because of smaller inertial mass, lower loss, lower current drain
- Better workpiece geometry thanks to the lack of deformation caused by belt tension
- Higher lifetime, better surface quality on workpiece and higher tool insert edge life thanks to much lower vibration level
- Low noise level
- Better workpiece geometrical accuracy and repeatability, longer lifetime of bearings and higher performance thanks to lower heat deformation resulted from intensive liquid cooling
Accuracy of Machine Tools:
Concerning machine tools, there are two major but contradictory requirements: to increase machining speed and machining accuracy at the same time. Meeting these requirements is a big challenge for development of both mechanics and electronics of the machine. The most advanced types of NCT machine tools incorporate all the mechanical, electronic and of course software elements, solutions and services by means of which the highest accuracy and surface quality can be achieved, beside high speed machining. Using TDC (Thermal Deviation
Compensation) function developed recently, the NCT control measures the temperature of machine tool in 8 measuring points and compensates automatically inaccuracy derived from heat deformation.
In the table on the right you can find a list of solutions enhancing the machine tool accuracy.
Most of them are standard items on NCT machine tools, but some are offered as options for our machines of premium category.
ACCURACY OF NCT MACHINE TOOLS
SOLUTIONS ENHANCING THE
MACHINE TOOL ACCURACY
MODEL DESCRIPTION/ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES
HEIDENHAIN linear scale
Pre-tensioned ballscrews with radial and axial bearings on both ends
Direct ballscrew drive through rigid couplings
Built-in spindle
Option for all models
It measures the travel of the slide directly. The inaccuracy of powertrain does not appear in the measurement. It eliminates particularly the dimensional changes derived from heat production of ballscrew.
With increasing dynamics, the movement of the axis becomes swinging and vibratory due to the smallest loosening or non-linearity in the powertrain; this can be eliminated either by decreasing dynamics or often by replacing very expensive parts (e.g. ballscrew) or by costly interventions.
EmL, EmR
EmB, TMV
Standard feature, on most NCT machines
This increases the accuracy of machine and the rigidity of powertrain.
This reduces the inaccuracy caused by heat deformation.
This increases the accuracy during measurement with rotary encoder; this increases the dynamics during measurement with linear scale
EmL, EmB TB,
EUROturn
Using it eliminates belt elongation, belt slip, noise. This ensures high dynamics, high speed, low vibration level, long bearing lifetime, long tool edge life
None
This requires from the manufacturer high manufacturing orderliness and high attention at testing.
The motor heats the spindle • Large size • Limited power and torque • Expensive
Direct spindle drive (without belt drive)
EmL
EmB
TMV
This eliminates the belt elongation
This eliminates the noise
The motor does not heat the spindle.
Max. speed of 20000 rpm • Sensitivity for unbalancing because of the long powertrain. • The main motor with shaft bored through is expensive. • Cooling problems with spindle motor (liquid cooling is recommended)
Headstock temperature control with liquid cooling system
Option for all milling machines
EUROturn12, TB
It keeps the headstock on permanent temperature, therefore it decreases the heat deformation caused by start-up and during shut-down.
It increases the lifetime of spindle bearing.
None
Measuring headstock temperature and compensation of heat deformation by TDC in NCT control software
Option for all milling machines
Deformation of headstock is one of the most influencing factor of machining accuracy. Using multipoint temperature measurement and proper evaluating software increases the precision.
None
HSHP high speed and high precision contouring in NCT control software
For all milling machines
Thanks to the high computing capacity of NCT controls, processing technological program is accomplished before the execution and every movement is executed at the most optimum speed which ensures meeting accuracy requirements set in parameter.
Setting the proper accuracy grade and within it the parameters requires high attention. With some experience, the machining speed can be considerably increased without decreasing the machining accuracy
Second-degree (Gaussian curve) acceleration/deceleration at reversal of feed motion
For all milling machines
Acceleration variation hits the machine (dF = m * da). With this feature, the mechanical stress of the machine decreases and the machine dynamics and surface quality can be increased.
None
HPSC high precision speed control in
NCT servo drives
For all NCT servo drives
Servo drives should indicate precise and linear characteristics towards the CNC throughout the complete speed range. This requirement can only be met by precise current control and multiple feedback loops and compensated and high-resolution speed control by the EnDat 2.2. • High precision • High dynamics • Vibration-free position control.
None
Application of smoothing interpolation
(SMOOTH)
Nanointerpolation
For all milling machines
For all machine tools
Thanks to the high computing capacity and smoothing interpolation, NCT control substitutes small movements generated by CAM systems for osculating curve. This improves surface quality and increases the machining speed – the piece time will lessen.
All member of the NCT 200 control family operate with nanometre internal resolution in path computing, speed computing, and generating compensations alike. Thanks to the EnDat 2.2 measuring system and HPSC, the theoretical high resolution comes true in practice too.
The proper setting the parameters and selection of position of turning on and off this function requires high attention.
It works using EQN 1337 motor encoder and EnDat 2.2 linear scales only, and that increases the machine price by 10%.

Machine design and production
Our customers often have requests that are difficult to fulfil with standard solutions. They ask for products that are either not available on the market or are too expensive for the customer’s budget. In these cases we design and build the machines. Some of them are manufactured in serial production, the others are built in piece production.

Selling and servicing HEIDENHAIN products
NCT Ltd. uses and distributes HEIDENHAIN measuring systems in great quantities for several decades. Our engineers participate in HEIDENHAIN factory training courses, and since we have own development and production activities, we have knowledge on HEIDENHAIN measuring systems almost at a level as we know our products. As one the first firms in the world, we started to use EnDat 2.2 absolute rotary encoders and linear scales, establishing the service background which requires great professionalism and expensive devices. We have all the equipment and measuring apparatus that are necessary to provide fast service of factory-level quality. We have repair parts and also the mostly needed measuring systems in stock.
Measuring systems
NCT Ltd. uses incremental and absolute measuring systems of HEIDEN-
HAIN, the world’s leading manufacturer of measuring systems. Our control technology accepts the 11 uApp, 1Vpp, TTL incremental signals, uses synchronization to the selected reference point and the C-type reference point record developed by HEIDENHAIN. Using the HEIDENHAIN
EnDat 2.2 measuring system, absolute position measurement and submicron resolution are achieved at the same time.
of high quality products. To run and constantly train an effective service team, to analyse failures occurred and to indicate them to the quality assurance system is an expensive and complicated task.
The service engineer must be able to identify the reason of the problem fast, and standing beside the machine, he should accomplish troubleshooting often under unfavourable circumstances. Fortunately, at NCT
Ltd. the whole company, especially the departments for electronics and mechanics development support the activity of service engineers either using mobile phones or in person. We are the most effective in fixing our own products, since we have mechanical and electric parts, as well as thorough knowledge mostly for them. Since we not only install, but also manufacture electric parts for our machines, we can clear electric faults most effectively and safely, by changing the parts.
Service and Customer Support
Service
Service support is one of the most sensitive aspects of the machine tool business. Distributors can go under due to lack of proper service team.
Without professional service support, users may have stunning opinion
NCT customer support
The task of the service is trouble shooting, while the customer support deals with installation, handing over, upgrading and rebuilding of machines. Quality assurance and cost-effective operation cannot be imagined without scheduled preventive maintenance. Major and expensive repairs can be avoided by periodic inspection of the machines.
NCT Ltd. has the proper electronic measuring equipment to conduct static and dynamic machine testing. With these equipment we can practically take a snapshot of the actual condition of the machine. Compering snapshots taken and filed regularly, we can keep track of changes in technical and accuracy conditions of the machine. This enables us to observe loosening and tensions in powertrains and by means of troubleshooting we can prevent defective works, wears and failures on the machines or even personal injuries.

NCT Ltd., like several prosperous domestic and foreign global companies, founded its own educational institution named NCT Academy Non-profit
Limited Company of Public Utility in 2010 with the ambitious aim of taking part in providing for man-power for a successful industry struggling with scarcity of labour. Our activity focuses on adult training and retraining, but our aim is to give a high-level continuous education for instructors carrying out professional training.
The NCT Academy is a non-profit enterprise, but it is a great support and actually a benefit for NCT Ltd. to familiarize expectant technologists, machine setup men and machine operators with NCT products to, and to propagate the products and the professional fame of NCT Ltd. among the to-be users of
CNC machine tools. Further benefit of this cooperation for both sides is that colleagues of the NCT Academy not only get an insight into NCT development activities but also intervene in it in some places; while NCT Ltd. supports NCT
Academy by providing them with the latest products and software.
Besides standard professional training, we started to renew and accredit training on professions now missing; this activity and its objects are updated continuously. The most popular professions are CAD/CAM, CNC programmertechnologist and CNC skilled worker.
We regularly organize the “National CNC Programming and Operation
Competition” for secondary school students. In 2012, the competition completely entered the online world of 21th century. The semifinal passed off in a new way – via internet in an online interactive mode, preparing a bigger event, an international CNC competition.
NCT Academy coordinates the 4-6 week long summer practical training of BSc and MSc students at NCT Ltd. These students participate in concrete NCT projects from the beginning.
We launched our Knowledge Base forum, where anybody can ask professional questions and use the existing database (online exam sheets, drawing albums, tutorial videos, posters, etc.).
There is a new opportunity – downloading NCT 201 simulator from NCT website free of charge. You should only register in NCT Academy website (academia.nct.hu), and you can download the educational version of NCT 201 simulator whose user, programmer and testing interfaces are completely the same as NCT control’s ones; we limited the number of blocks to 50 only and disabled the input in and output from the software. The simulator has been made suitable for practicing techniques and knowledge gained in programming and managing of the CNC at home, on their computers, in a real software environment.
If you need professional well-trained in CNC machining or you want that your employees have more steady basics or you would like to get knowledge on the NCT 200 control family, your best choice is the NCT Academy.
Our instructors have experience of many decades' standing in teaching CNC, CAD/CAM and machining technology. Asking is not a shame in our academy. Our goal is to transfer knowledge, not to spend time unnecessarily. Please, visit the website of NCT Academy. If you are interested, please contact Róbert Dranka, the director of NCT Academy.

12 NCT 201 control and its peripheries
NCT 201 CNC AND INDUSTRIAL CONTROL IS BUILT ON 3 BASIC COMPONENTS
1. Windows Embedded CE Professional operating system (MICROSOFT)
2. EtherCAT communication channel between CNC and its peripheries (BECKHOFF)
3. EnDat 2.2 (physically) absolute measuring system (HEIDENHAIN)
Windows Compact Embedded (CE Professional)
The WINDOWS CE host unit (EHU) of the NCT
201 control is behind the monitor. The default pointing device is the touch screen, but there are
4 optionally used USB ports, where optional pointing devices (mouse, track ball, touchpad) can be connected. The EHU has 2 Ethernet terminals. One of them can be connected to the peripheries (servo drives, input/output units) via EtherCAT protocol, while another one can be connected to the computer network. The system program of NCT 201 control fits WINDOWS CE operation system perfectly, exploiting it to its full potential, like its professional file management, computer peripheries management (data storage devices, printers, data input peripheries, pointing devices, etc.), and other services (network, internet, remote machines, picture and video displaying, playing sound files, etc.)
EtherCAT
EtherCAT (Ethernet for Control Automation Technology) is an open code, industrial, real-time Ethernet network, which uses standard Ethernet data frames for communication between elements of the network. It consists of two main units, the EPU (HOST) unit and the (SLAVE) peripheries (drives, EPU). The cable from the EPU has to be connected to the input terminal of the closest periphery unit, and then from its output terminal the input terminal of the next periphery can be connected. The system can be optionally chained over and over again, and can be extended with periphery units.
EnDat 2.2
It is a physically absolute measuring system, and is available with linear scale and rotary encoder as well. The rotary encoder can be absolute in single or multi turn. The NCT 200 control series can receive both the absolute encoders and the absolute linear scales in single or multi turn. The NCT servomotors are equipped with multi turn
EnDat 2.2 absolute measuring system, therefore neither the reference point switch nor limit switch on NCT machine tools are necessary anymore. It’s nothing to worry about troubles after turn on due to uncertainty of reference point pickup. Machining can be started immediately after turning on the machine tool
NCT 201 control and its peripheries
MECHANICAL DESIGN
Central unit
The NCT 201 control, the first member of NCT 200 control family is basically new even in appearance. The central unit of CNC (EHU) is placed behind the 15” or 19” LCD display. During development of the central unit it was key point to minimize energy consumption and with this to minimize generation of heat. Using the latest 1.8 GHz speed, low consumption Intel® Atom™ microprocessor in the CPU, the panel box doesn’t require fan cooling. The basic pointing device of the apparatus is a TOUCHSCREEN. Behind the panel a loudspeaker is located which indicates touching the screen by clicking sound; this enables WINDOWS compatible sound files to be played (we are planning to build in a VOICE ADVISER).
To install control panels NCT Ltd. offers professional boxes and accessories (mounting frames and screws, consoles, suspending arms and rotating joint components).
13
Machine keyboard
Machine builders can connect any machine keyboard to the NCT 201 control panel. It is not necessary to buy an operator panel offered by NCT Ltd. The flexible system allows the users to create their own machine interface via the INPUT/OUTPUT PLC lines, in which they can optionally combine virtual buttons of the touch screen and the real buttons of a separate panel.
The optional machine operator’s console of NCT 201 control matches the monitor module in size, mechanical style, and colour. It is also perfectly compatible with the monitor when they are built-in or mounted on a supporting arm; the two module form an integrated system.
Besides the usual NCT operating devices (HANDWHEEL, FEED OVERRIDE, JOG, MODE BUTTONS, EMERGENCY STOP BUTTON, etc.), there are buttons that can be used freely.
Every button on the NCT control panel has LED lighting that can be seen from every direction and is connected to the CPU through the EtherCAT.
14 NCT 201 control and its peripheries
Programmer keyboard
In the standard configuration data input can be done using the virtual keyboard ‘painted’ on the touchscreen. The keyboard image appears and covers a screen area only in the case, when there is an opportunity for inputting data. Since it is a virtual keyboard it is easily adjustable to different languages, the operator can simply select the language of the keyboard. The size of the buttons and placement of them on the verge of the monitor makes the data input very comfortable. The loudspeaker behind the panel emits clicking sound when the buttons are touched.
In order to protect the touch screen a self-adhesive guard foil is used which can be replaced easily in case of matting or scratching.
If the user prefers PC keyboard, there are 4 USB channel to connect any PC keyboard which can be placed in a convenient and ergonomic position on a console mountable under the machine keyboard, on the lower part of the NCT control panel.
Peripheries
The peripheries of NCT 201 connect to EHU via EtherCAT. The peripheries can be NCT I/O units, NCT drives, but standard EtherCAT peripheries from other manufacturers (e.g. BECKHOFF, YASKAVA, ABB, HITACHI,
BAUMÜLLER, LENZE, SEW, WAGO, etc.) can also be used. The system is designed in that manner so that ‘wagons’ of different functions and lengths can be connected to the EPU (‘engine’) with EtherCAT connection via an
LVDS bus, using a flat cable. This assembled ‘train’ runs on an OMEGA rail widely used in building electrical cabinets. This time, we offer15 types of peripheries with different functions but we continuously expand the selection and our business partner can request custom “wagons” as well.
NCT 201 control and its peripheries
Drives
The new NCT drives are perfectly compatible EtherCAT peripheries. They can be connected to the central unit (EHU) of the NCT 201 control via a single EtherCAT bus. Through this broadband channel, the drives receive the speed command, and pass the absolute position for the CNC software. The NCT servo drives have been developed especially to meet machine tool demands. Because of their several inferior control loops and high precision fast current and speed control
(HPSC) they are essential peripheries of the NCT control for high-speed and high-precision machining and nanointerpolation.
SERCOS over EtherCAT (SoE)
The NCT control communicates with servo drives via a widely used standardized protocol. Because of the standardized connection it is possible to use servo drives from several other manufacturers. Setting servo drives, changing their system software can easily be done from NCT control, without external device. The well-tried parameters are stored in the control, changing servo drive or motor is very simple, thanks to the automatic parameterization.
Motors
The NCT A, Ai, AiS, AMS and TORQUE motors satisfy the highest demands of customers. As far mechanical design, size, speed and electric parameters are concerned, our motors have been developed for machine tools. The Ai motors are produced with EnDat 2.2 absolute encoder, but all NCT motors can be ordered with and incremental measuring system too..

Logging, sending log file, machine supervision and energy management
The supervision module of the NCT Ltd. sees and memorizes everything!
The NCT 201 control stores every important event in a so called log file. In the event of any operating trouble with the equipment, this log file only should be sent (via email or on pendrive) to the NCT Service and Customer Support independently of the reason of the event which could be failure of the servo system, wrong operator’s intervention or a PLC error. Using this log file the control becomes an open book for the NCT professionals.
Sending log file
To learn how to handle the log file, a short video is availablefor users on youtube portal (making NCT 201 log file).
Machine supervision
The most important operational statuses of the machine tool (MACHINING, SETTING. SHUT-DOWNS, FAILURE STATUS) can be filtered from the log file data of a given period of time, and they can be displayed graphically as a function of time. The diagrams illustrate rate of operation of the machine and the reasons of shut-downs for even many months retroactively.
Energy management
Growth of energy prices and environmental awareness demand stringent energy management from us all.
The NCT 201 control monitors the main supply continuously, checks the phase sequence, detects mains failures, and responds to them through the PLC
(e.g. it stops the machine in time in case of a power failure). The control measures consumption and indicates in kW and HUF the energy consumption of a preset period of time numerically and graphically. You can get to know of the price of energy spent for manufacturing even one workpiece.
