Course: English (General Business Focus)
Fall Semester 2019
Instructor: Esme Garza
Location: Room 7
This class is for anyone wanting to communicate successfully in English in general business
situations including managers, sales people, account managers and business leaders
In this course, participants will learn:
 To communicate with others in practical, business-oriented situations
 To express themselves in English with greater fluency, accuracy and confidence
 To handle themselves in English in a variety of business contexts, from negotiating to using
the telephone, making presentations, and socializing
Required Materials:




Paper or small notebook (for short writing exercises and note-taking)
Small 3-ring binder or plastic A4 folder (for notes and handouts from the teacher)
Dictionary – First-language to English -or- English to English
Writing tool
Class Requirements:

Regular attendance is expected.

The class is only once a week. If you miss any part or the entire lesson, it will greatly affect
your overall grade.

You should not arrive to class more than 10 minutes late or you will miss possible quizzes
and announcements.

You should not be disruptive in class or you may be asked to leave and you will be marked
ABSENT.

You must come to class prepared with a writing tool, paper or notebook, and dictionary.

Your mobile phones must be off or on VIBRATE for the duration of class. You may use your
phones during the breaks.

The content of this course will be supported by systematic work on core grammatical structures,
vocabulary patterns and pronunciation. Actual course content depends on previous course work
and is subject to on-going change as the course evolves. The following are sample monthly modules
