What is an inverted sentence?
An inverted sentence is a sentence in a normally subject-first language in which the verb comes before the
subject.
Examples:
Driving the car is Faby.
Wanting more is Luke.
What is his name?
Where should we go?
There are three men in the room.
What happens to the verb when the subject is singular/plural?
Even in this case, the subject and the verb must agree.
Example:
In the center of the mall stand four statues. (What stands in the center of the mall? Four statues.
The plural verb stand agrees with the plural subject four statues.)
Here are the books that you ordered. (The plural verb are agrees with the plural subject books.)
Do the employees consent to the terms in the contract? (The plural verb consent agrees with the plural subject
employees.)
Exercises:
Kelly is inside.
The mail is here.
We were working the hardest.
The documents are here.
We should send the mail to North Dakota.
