point reduction from your final grade.)
Famous Mathematicians’ Postage Stamp
Objective: Design an ORIGINAL postage stamp highlighting the life and work of a famous
mathematician and then write a one-page paper explaining the significance of the each feature of the
stamp.
Features of the Stamp
Use the template to place the following information on the stamp:
Explanatory Paper
Your paper must be single-spaced, 12-in. font, and must include the following information:
(1) Biographical data: date of birth, death, family information, nationality, education, employment ,
description of their upbringing and hobbies.
(2) Country that would have issued this stamp.
(3) Value of the stamp. Try to make the value have some significance to the mathematician, if
possible. Explain the units of money.
(4) Explain the source of the image of the mathematician. If possible, describe what he or she is doing
in the picture.
(5) Key Contributions to Math: For each image on your stamp, explain in detail, what the image
represents, and how this image is related to or is represented by this mathematician. Explain why
this discovery is important to mathematics. Your explanation should contain sufficient evidence
that you understand the important aspects of your mathematician’s work.
(6) Optional images: Explain what they portray and why they are included on the stamp.
(7) List your resources, at least two.
