WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT?
• The Renaissance lasted 300 years and
began in the 1300s.
• Europeans during this time had a
renewed interest in ‘classical’ culture.
• “Renaissance thinkers were interested
in earthly life for its own sake. They
rejected the medieval view that life was
only a preparation for the afterlife.”
WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT?
• Education during the Renaissance
focused on preparing men for public
service which was different from
Medieval education which prepared
men for service to the Church.
• “Although Christianity remained a
strong force in Europe, people began to
be more critical of the Church.”

• Individualism was everywhere during
the Renaissance: paintings, exploring
and conquering the world, and
merchants who gained wealth through
daring risks involving money.

RENAISSANCE GO FISH!
• Choose someone to both shuffle and deal
• Person to dealer’s left side goes first
• Ask someone if they have a card with a specific
artwork. They have to give you every card with that
specific artwork to you
• Place your paired cards face down into a pile
• First person to get rid of all their cards WINS!
• While you are playing, take note of TWO pieces of art
you find interesting and want to know more about.
CHROMEBOOK TIME
• Everyone will be using a Chromebook
to research the TWO pieces of art they
found interesting from the card game.
• Fill out your organizer sheet with facts
you find in your research. For example:
types of materials used during the
painting process, the length of time it
took them, etc.

• Martin Luther contradicted the Catholic
Church by stressing a direct
relationship with God and that salvation
came through faith alone. The Church
insisted for years that salvation came
through both faith in God and good
works.
• He began a new branch of Christianity
called Protestantism.
