_________
Method:
Part 1: Make three solutions of Kool-Aid with different concentrations and taste them to decide which concentration you prefer and why. You will need to prepare100 ml of each of the following Kool-Aid solutions: 0.029 mol/L, 90 g/L, and 0.935 mol/L.
Part 2: Make a 100ml solution of Kool-Aid using 45ml of the 0.935mol/L solution and determine its new molar concentration.
Materials:
Kool-Aid powder
Water
Stirring sticks
Triple beam balance
Cups
Spoons
Tasting glasses
Procedure:
Part 1:
1. Calculate the amount of Kool-Aid powder (in grams) that is needed to make each solution.
2. Mark the cup to the indicated line based on the demo cup provided by the teacher.
3. Mass the amount of Kool-Aid needed for the 0.029 mol/L molar concentrated solution, using the weighing boat and the spoon.
5. Place half the amount of the volume of the solvent (water) into the cup (50 ml).
6. Pour the solute into the cup. Do not use the flask as it may contain harmful chemicals.
7. Use the stirring stick and stir the solution until the Kool-Aid has dissolved.
8. Add the remaining volume of water into your cup.
9. Repeat steps 3 to 8 using a molar concentration of 90 g/L.
10. Repeat steps 3 to 8 using a molar concentration of 0.935 mol/L.
11. Sip the three different concentrated solutions of Kool-Aid and take note of the taste (make sure to share with your partner).
10. Fill in the observation table below. (make sure to describe the taste, color and smell)
11. Pour the rest of your solution down the sink or drink the rest.
Part 2: (Provide a detailed step by step protocol of what you did during this section of the lab. Write in the present tense as if you were instructing someone else to complete the lab.) ** Remember to number your steps **
