The idea that money buys happiness runs against most of the moral lessons we have been taught. The above notion on money advocates for self-centered behavior. The increased desire for wealth is what spurs debates on the subject. The increased desire for money can also be attributed to the increased observations from social commentators on the link between money and happiness. Since average people who spend money look great, one can buy the idea that money buys happiness. This paper looks at the contribution of money to joy. From an individual standpoint, money is a reward which affords a person happiness. Although i am a part time student, I still take a part-time job. The salary I receive at the end of each month acts an approval that my labor is appreciated. The fact that my employer recognizes my work makes me happy and enhances my job satisfaction. Furthermore, the rewards I get following my team's exceptional performance motivate me to give my job the best. Receiving a salary also makes me afford quality time with family and friends. Immediately I began working, I started affording expensive dinners and could smoothly go to entertainment venues and have fun with my colleagues. Initially, these things were not affordable and I saw them as a luxury. However, having money changed my view of leisure. Money makes an individual afford necessities, which makes an individual comfortable. With money, one can buy warm clothing. Money also enables an individual to have shelter in a secure neighborhood and have access to education. A person cannot be happy unless their needs are met. Since I come from a middle-class family, at some point, I struggled to survive. However, things became easy after securing a job. Money made me realize my dreams, one of which was acquiring an education. The fact that I keep achieving my set goals makes me a happy student. Money can relieve one of the pains of poverty. Visiting my grandparents at the South made me have a gist of what poor people undergo after paying a visit to my grandpa's poor neighborhoods. I realized that poverty is a disease and these individual's lack decent housing, not to talk of food and clothing. If only poor people had money, it would have relieved them of their worries. Money that is spent the right way brings a great deal of happiness to a household. A look at my family can affirm that money indeed buys happiness. In general, money plays a significant role in facilitating happiness. However, what matters is how one decides to spend the money they have. From an individual standpoint, money is a reward which makes an individual afford basic needs. Money also relieves an individual of the pains of poverty. Thus, having money interplays with other factors to make an individual comfortable. With money, one can afford fun and a great time with family and friends. What one does with the money is what determines whether they become happy or get worried.
