The idea that money buys happiness runs against most of the moral lessons we have been taught.
The above notion on money advocates for self-centered behavior. The increased desire for
wealth is what spurs debates on the subject. The increased desire for money can also be
attributed to the increased observations from social commentators on the link between money
and happiness. Since average people who spend money look great, one can buy the idea that
money buys happiness. This paper looks at the contribution of money to joy.
From an individual standpoint, money is a reward which affords a person happiness. Although i
am a part time student, I still take a part-time job. The salary I receive at the end of each month
acts an approval that my labor is appreciated. The fact that my employer recognizes my work
makes me happy and enhances my job satisfaction. Furthermore, the rewards I get following my
team's exceptional performance motivate me to give my job the best. Receiving a salary also
makes me afford quality time with family and friends. Immediately I began working, I started
affording expensive dinners and could smoothly go to entertainment venues and have fun with
my colleagues. Initially, these things were not affordable and I saw them as a luxury. However,
having money changed my view of leisure.
Money makes an individual afford necessities, which makes an individual comfortable. With
money, one can buy warm clothing. Money also enables an individual to have shelter in a secure
neighborhood and have access to education. A person cannot be happy unless their needs are
met. Since I come from a middle-class family, at some point, I struggled to survive. However,
things became easy after securing a job. Money made me realize my dreams, one of which was
acquiring an education. The fact that I keep achieving my set goals makes me a happy student.
Money can relieve one of the pains of poverty. Visiting my grandparents at the South made me
have a gist of what poor people undergo after paying a visit to my grandpa's poor neighborhoods.
I realized that poverty is a disease and these individual's lack decent housing, not to talk of food
and clothing. If only poor people had money, it would have relieved them of their worries.
Money that is spent the right way brings a great deal of happiness to a household. A look at my
family can affirm that money indeed buys happiness.
In general, money plays a significant role in facilitating happiness. However, what matters is
how one decides to spend the money they have. From an individual standpoint, money is a
reward which makes an individual afford basic needs. Money also relieves an individual of the
pains of poverty. Thus, having money interplays with other factors to make an individual
comfortable. With money, one can afford fun and a great time with family and friends. What one
does with the money is what determines whether they become happy or get worried.
