Project #3 Nevelson style garbage art project Objective: Students will create a Nevelson style assemblage artwork Materials: Cardboard soda can flats or other flat boxes. Toilet tissue rolls Paper towel rolls Plastic silverware Cardboard egg crates Cardboard apple crates Other cardboard trash like packaging for electronics, etc. Glue Scissors Acrylic Paint Brushes Picture hanging wire Steps: 1. Look at the works of Louise Nevelson and discuss shape, form, space pattern, and repetition as well as the difference between painting and sculptural works. 2. Gather materials to work with. 3. Decide which direction the artwork should be – vertical or Horizontal then carefully poke two holes equal distance apart and run picture hanging wire through them to make a hanging loop. 4. Arrange the garbage items in the box case by repeating lines & shapes or objects to form a pattern. Repeat process as necessary until satisfied with your design. 5. Glue objects in place and let dry. 6. Paint the entire project one color to unify it. 7. Now step back and enjoy the masterpiece.
