Assessment Criteria knowledge and understanding and Skills Task Instructions Collect data on your skill level in Volleyball and present this information in a logical, diagrammatical format. (using your workbook sheets) Analyze your data and identify your weakest physical skill, explaining your decisions. Synthesize three (3) separate skill-based training sessions that aim to improve the learning of the selected physical skill. Justify how and why your training sessions (e.g.: drills/activities/etc.) will improve your weakness, through logical argument and appropriate usage of supporting evidence Submission Requirements/Condtions Independent & Class time allocated, References list compulsory Skill Acquisition assessment tasks, students will need to refer to the rubric tables found on the college portal at http://portal.maristc.act.edu.au/lms/12PE1a/SitePages/Home.aspx Marist HAPE Moderation Procedures Moderation commences with internal processes in the HAPE dept. Teachers develop assessment programs and instruments, apply assessment criteria, and allocate Unit grades, according to the relevant Course Framework. Where appropriate, the HOD may apply scaling to unit results to promote consistency in assessment of materials. Consensus discussions to moderate marking or grading of individual assessment instruments and unit grade decisions will include class teachers, the Head of Department and may also include the dean of studies. Students should view Met for general course information. 1|Page VOLLEYBALL This terms assessment task asks you to analyse your own Volleyball performance to create a training program. Your program must be aimed to improve your individual performance. By taking time now to analyse your own performance you will be able to better improve your performance. The unit will be predominantly practically based and you will be responsible for implementing your training program. As a guide: You should be spending at least a third of a lesson on your training program when working in a simple environment Outside of tournament play and training sessions, use game play as training Warm up and train with a wide variety of players and playing styles Come to each lesson with a plan of what you want to work on Reflect upon the effectiveness of your training and tactics. You will need to review the particular areas of acquired knowledge that apply to your training program. Training program design Principles of training Energy system usage Components of fitness Short term and long term response to exercise Skill acquisition Stages of skill learning Feedback Practice types Biomechanics Sociology of sport Sport psychology 2|Page Player Analysis Your analysis will help to highlight your Volleyball strengths and weaknesses. You should look for external feedback from video analysis, your teacher and your peers. During the first week of play you will need to identify: 1. Your strengths. a. What is your strongest Skill(s) Do you have a stronger side? Do you utilise spin or do you rely on power? Strength Why? 2. Your weaknesses. a. What is your weakest skill(s)? Do you have a weaker side? Do you struggle with digging serves? Do you struggle for consistency? Weakness Why? 3. Playing Style. Identify Volleyball Playing Styles and decide what type of player you are. You will more than likely have a combination of playing styles. Playing Style(s) 3|Page Planning Your Training Program Some training drills and sample sessions can be found on the Moodle site. You are required to: 1. From your analysis of your Volleyball performance, articulate and justify, where you believe the greatest improvement can be made to your performance. That is, technique, tactics, training type, mental approach, or a combination of these. 2. Plan a program to develop your Volleyball performance. Design the program to enhance your strengths and improve your weaknesses. As you design your program, ensure that you are able to justify the drills and skills you implement, using your acquired knowledge from Senior PE. Use the following pages to plan your training program. 1. From your analysis of your Volleyball performance, articulate and justify, where you believe the greatest improvement can be made to your performance. That is, technique, tactics, training type, mental approach, or a combination of these. 4|Page Program Planning Identify elements of your performance that you can improve on. Apply relevant acquired knowledge, propose possible drills and justify why these drills will improve your performance. Element of performance to improve Accurate serving Relevant acquired knowledge Performance Routines Blocked Practice Internal Feedback Proposed drills / activities / games Develop a performance routine before serving Complete three sets of ten serves using performance routine before each serve Between each set, reflect on success of serves using imagery and knowledge of results Justification A performance routine is useful for calming nerves and focussing on the task at hand Blocked practice is useful for practicing a discrete, closed skill such as serving 5|Page Program Planning Element of performance to improve Relevant acquired knowledge Proposed drills / activities / games Justification 6|Page Training Program Use the following pages to plan your day to day sessions. You must come to each lesson with an outline of a) what you want to achieve, and b) how you will achieve it. Your week to week program will need to be loaded onto the Moodle prior to you participating in the program. Appendix 3 has a number of templates that you may wish to use for goal setting and tactical play. You may wish to conduct some specific testing to provide quantitative data for use later with your evaluation. See your teacher to arrange this.
