I have focused my non-academic pursuits primarily on helping those who may not have the necessary means to pursue a higher education or improved quality of life. During my PhD, I established a charity that would provide noninterest loans and basic day to day necessities such as clean drinking water to those in rural towns and villages. To carry on this mission, I have remained active in recruiting members and bringing awareness to the cause. We now have over 800 active members that volunteer overseas to provide food, water, household items, and toiletries to underserved areas. One of our areas of focus is to invest in the local students who have lack of facilities to gain an education – we do this by providing internet modems at their schools in order to access our online tutoring, which we provide free of charge. For holidays, we took our teachers to remote areas to prepare the students for their pre-university exam. I am proud to say that our first class has started their first year of university. Those students have now become members of our charity as well, lending a helping hand through tutoring and other methods to help those that are in they same position they once were.
