How to Delegate to a Practical Nurse (PN)”, to help understand what we can
delegate to a LPN.
The acronym is PRACTICE.
P – Provide wound care (also take out staples, apply steri strips)
R – Reinforce teaching (they can not initiate teaching the RN must do that)
A – Administer medication (they can’t give narcotics or IV medications, when
NCLEX questions appear the answer is ALWAYS no IV medications even though
some states allow it see below)
T – Take vital signs (on a stable client or as a matter of routine)
I – Identify (identify alterations in a clients condition but they should report it to
the RN)
C – Check (the LPN can check the client’s mobility and urine output)
E – Enter into document
