Art Ventures Ages 6-8 Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See Day 1 Bear loom students will roll out a slab of clay. Use clay tools to cut the outside of the loom shape. Cut out a circle in the center of the clay and add texture with stamps and tools. To finish the loom, create an odd number of small holes around the center circle. Day 2 Painted Paper Have a variety of brown paints (dark, light, black, white) so that the end result will be varied. Cut out leaves and with oil pastels add details. Day 3 Using templates to make the brown bear to help the students identify shape differences, cutting, tracing, gluing and composition. Using black oil pastels, color in a dot for the nose, add claws and create some rough lines to mimic fur. Eyes can be a black dot or a googly eye. The ears are a small circle and cut in half and 1/2 circle for the tail. Day 4 Paint the loom. Finish off Brown bear painting if not complete. Go outside to do a drawing of what we see, just like the Brown Bear. Day 5 To begin the weaving process, use yarn to create the warp by threading it through the loom holes. Once warping is complete, tie yarn on to create the weave. Take the weft string and continue to go under and over the warp until the center is filled with a circular weaving.
