In OT, can be used as a preparatory method to
ADL/IADLs involving the following skills or if it is a
meaningful leisure/social participation activity
from prior level of function, may be included in
social participation ADL.
Cardstock, writing tools, scrap paper, glue and
scissors, stickers, pictures as preferred
Work table for standing or sitting as tolerated
Sharing supplies in a group and cleaning up after
finishing task
Steps to select materials, position hand to use
scissors and writing utensils, manipulate scissors,
glue and small pieces of paper or stickers
Fine motor manipulation, movement of shoulder,
elbow, and fingers. Coordination of UE. Scanning
for correct positioning of paper in scissors or
paper with use of glue. Proprioception to know
where body is to complete fine motor task.
Sensation of UE to feel glue on hands and apply
correct amount of pressure to press paper onto
card. Scan for errors. Plan steps to finish product
in timely manner. Responding to surprises/errors
and correcting errors. Attention to task, initiation
and termination, sequencing of task.
Alert and focused on sequence and details of
task. Envision the finished project. Visual acuity.
UE strength and ROM. Gross and fine motor
movement. Dynamic standing balance as
tolerated.
