Adlerian Group Problem Solving IncidentMethod Phase 1. Information (5min) Problem owner presents his/her problem. Moderator supports problem owner to explore circumstances of problem, find out what has already been done/tried and ask how the group can help. Focus on one problem, one incident, one case. Phase 2. Clarification (3-5min) Moderator supports group members to ask factual, clarifying questions – no discussion, no interpretation. The aim is for group members to be better informed and maintain objectivity. Phase 3. Brainstorm about suggestions (3-5min) Moderator asks group for suggestions – what might be helpful for the problem owner in solving the problem? Phase 4. Presenting suggestions (3-5min) Moderator asks each group member for one suggestion/solution and these are listed and numbered. Problem owner’s task is to listen, not comment. Phase 5. Problem owner and clarification (3min) Problem owner can ask for clarification on solutions so he/she has a clear understanding of all solutions. Phase 6. Problem owner makes decisions (3-5min) Problem owner crosses out/discards solutions that don’t make sense to them or ones that have already been tried. Moderator encourages problem owner to choose one solution from those that remain. If all solutions are discarded then go round again/do it another time/offer 1:1 moderation. Phase 7. Closing (3min) Moderator explores with the problem owner how to implement the solution and asks: What are you going to do? How are you going to do it? When?
