THE MEANING OF MATURITY VOLUME 48/MAY-JUNE 2015/pg.9 Maturity is not attained through an overnight process, nor, over just a year. Maturity is a continuous development of an individual in all aspect, may it be in the mental, emotional, social, or physical state. We cannot limit maturity by one’s age, maturation of an individual varies as times goes by. The concept of maturity for all ages mustn’t be stereotyped. In the article, it was showed that at certain age there are expected behavior that is needed to be observed for an individual to be considered mature. For example, a 10 year old kid is expected to know what is his/her strengths and weaknesses. Maturity goes along with experiences. Maturity is knowing which the right decision for each situation is. Every individual undergoes different situation and we as the society shouldn’t focus ourselves in just one sign of maturity. Maturity is not about practicing a perfect life, instead, living life and accepting each failure and standing without any doubt that you can recover. The point in here is we don’t need to push ourselves to become that kind of mature person as 30 years old are if you are only 18 years old. As teenagers enters the age of legality, they are expected to know what are their needs, wants, and beliefs. It is also anchored in their expected action that they should know what the concept of self-maintenance is. “If there is one predictor of how well a kid will be able to cope with demands of independence, it is the management of money”, says Carl Pickhardt. Reaching the age of 29, the concept of maturity focuses more on life’s stability, their decision on which kind of life to live and also with whom. There is this famous line which states that ‘life begins at 40’, well said, maturity at 40 states that, they act in a way that they have learned from their own experiences. At the age of 40, matured 40 years old knows which things are capable of affecting them, and which situations shouldn’t be considered as the basis of their emotions. As an individual reach 55 years old, they can totally identify which are their priorities in life, which are the person who doesn’t deserve their attention. They begin to set aside some of the pleasures of their lives for much important things. When an individual reaches 70 years of existence they tend to reminisce things that happened from the past and think of what legacy they could leave. These mature individuals are the individuals whom focuses their selves on the positive side of each single thing. Never rush things, even maturation. Prepared by: Macutong, Ghail Z. BSCE THE CHILL OF THE HUNT VOLUME 41/MAY-JUNE 2008/pg.9 Hunting in the wild and pursuing one’s goal is a similar concept. Both need patience, perseverance, and acceptance. Patience for the right timing, perseverance in aiming what you want, and acceptance of the possible outcome of your hunt. There is no circumstance that sun will shine all throughout, always remember if clouds doesn’t hide it, the earth would revolve and darkness would dominate. In this article, kids are raised in a way that they can explore nature, in a way that they can live a real life. Through this, they can experience things that are far from being experienced inside their houses. Even though they are prone to wounds out in field, out there they can grow and see things at different perspective. As they explore things, there are deeper learnings that they achieve far from being just kids out in the field. They also develop attitudes that they can benefit from as they age. That hunting skill with all the attitude you need to get what you want, is the attitude you can use in achieving your goals in life. Once you’re out in the field, you are battling with all the things present out there. Going back to the concept of hunting in the article, Benjamin as a kid was not allowed to do the work of the elders, thus, he was given other job. Like in the reality of life, you cannot succeed at performing a task or achieving a goal if you don’t have enough and proper experience to begin with. We don’t recognize how we are connected to the surroundings unless we experience to be out there, right in the field. Connecting it to the society we live in today, unless you keenly observe the way everyone moves, you won’t realize how this society works. In hunting, not every time you will go home with something, not every day is a good day. Parallel to life, not everything that you’ve waited would be in your arms, not everything that you’ve put your attention would be your prize. And reading this statement in the article, “We were a little disappointed, but at least we got to go home and warm up”, I realized that sometimes you need to accept the aftermath of your efforts even if it is good or not even smile-forming scenario.
