After completing this week’s readings and listening to the assigned videos, take a moment to
reflect on the general structure of Python and its uses. In your own words, describe why you
feel it will be beneficial to learn Python not only for the MSDS program but also for your
career. Feel free to do some research and find an article to support your claims.
As more and more companies are working toward becoming analytic competitors, the demand
for data experts has also increased. Data experts use programming languages to process and
analyze data, and Python is one of the most widely used programming languages in the field of
data science. It would be very beneficial to be able to communicate with other data experts
using the same programming language. Peter Norvig, director of search quality at Google,
states that “Today dozens of Google engineers use Python, and we’re looking for more people
with skills in this language.” Not only Google, but other big companies such as Facebook,
Netflix, Instagram, etc., has also adapted Python has their primary programming language (Real
Python, 2018). It would be a great advantage for my career if I know Python. Moreover, as
there are more and more machine learning packages built and written in Python, it would be
essential to know Python to be a successful data scientist.
