BEDMAKING AND TURNING DOWN Bedding, mattress and pillows are the basic of the primary product that the hotel has to sell, so they show all the very best the institution can offer. THE BED • Most mattresses today in the hospitality industry are the innerspring variety, but construction differ widely, as do their cost, comfort longevity. • Mattress is rotated every quarter or depending on the hotel standard to ensure longevity and even surfaces on all sides. • Box spring serves as shock absorber. They cushion the weight and sleep movements of the sleeper. • The bed frame is either metal or solid wood and provides the box spring and mattress with a platform or box on which to rest. • Ball casters are attached at the bottom of the frame for easy movement when servicing a guest room. DUVET BED SETTING BEDDING FOR DUVET BED-SETTING • • • • • Bed pad Fitted bed sheet Duvet jacket and filler Pillow and pillow slip Bed runner THE FOLLOWING ARE THE NEEDED BEDDINGS TO BE USED IN TRADITIONAL BED MAKING 3 flat sheets 1 standard pillow (20”x26”) - filled up with either cotton or feather among others depending on the standards. 1 standard pillow case (20” x 30”) – used to cover the pillow for a more beautiful effect. 1 woolen blanket – serve as insulator to give warmth of the body. 1 bed pad – used to protect the mattress from stains. 1 bed cover - used to protect the sheets from dust. 1 bed skirt – for decorative purpose used to cover the box spring sometimes called as valence. BED SETTING PROCEDURES TRADITIONAL 5 SHEETS 1. Pull the bed away from the headboard. 2. Check the bed pad for any stain and damage. 3. Spread the 1st sheet and mitre (right side up) 4. Spread the 2nd sheet (wrong side up) 5. Spread the blanket. 9-18 inches from the edge of the bed. 6. Spread the 3rd sheet (right side up) at the same level of the blanket. 7. Fold 2nd sheet over to the blanket and 3rd sheet and tuck in both sides. 8. Tuck in all linens and miter. 9. Insert the pillow into the pillow slip. 10. Complete w/ the bed cover. 11. Create a towel fold. DUVET BED MAKING 1. Pull the bed away from the headboard. 2. Check pad for any stain and damage. 3. Spread the 1st sheet and mitre. 4. Spread the duvet jacket on the bed. 5. Spread the duvet filler on top and apply the technique. 6. Fold the upper part to make a room for the pillows. 7. Insert the pillow into the pillow slip. 8. Complete w/ the bed runner.
