According to the Mirriam-Webster Online Dictionary, the definition of college is: col·lege: (n) kal-ij An institution of higher learning that grants the bachelor's degree in liberal arts or science or both. An institution that grants a degree? That’s it? Maybe to some people this is a truism; however, I realize that college is so much more. To many people, college is just the next step in life. To myself, it is an honor and a privilege. I yearn and look for the most information that I can possibly divulge into, and college is the perfect place to do so. The opportunity that will arise for me after college will be priceless. Academia has always been a strong point for me. I absolutely love going to school, sitting in class, learning important and interesting facts, and sharing previous knowledge with others. There really is no end to education after high school, and I plan on experiencing all of it. My plan to be a Political Science major in college stems from my strong beliefs in justice and the greater good of the common people. I know that what I want to do with my life is become a lawyer. I will work for the justice of mistreated and innocent people and make sure that the guilty are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. The anticipation that rises in my stomach just thinking about what I will learn and what I can contribute to my program of choice is something that is indescribable. There is no doubt in my mind that I can succeed at all that I do at the University level. Sharing life experiences and learning about others’ is something that I look forward to every day. I believe that the social aspect of college is just as important as the academic aspect. Clubs and organizations that will allow me to socialize with people who share the same interests as myself, however contribute to the community, whether school or otherwise, are also a priority on my list of reasons why I would like to attend college. Not only do I look forward to learning facts and figures, but the contribution of opinion by others is extremely important as well. Clubs and teams that will allow me to expand my horizons while teaching others about what I already know is something that I am looking forward to immensely. Learning about other people’s likes and dislikes and what makes them tick is what keeps me going! I have always been someone who can express his thoughts clearly, in speech and in writing. Through my research on colleges that I want to attend, I have found that this is an extremely important quality. To be able to share these attributes that I hold so dearly, as they do not come easily to many people, is something that I can not wait to do. Continuing education is an honor that I am excited to pursue and complete successfully. As the cliché goes, “the proof is in the bag!”
