Report Report, generally, consists of an analysis of a situation or problem at hand and recommends solution for it. Reports communicate information which has been compiled as a result of research and analysis of data and of issues. Reports can cover a wide range of topics, but usually focus on transmitting information with a clear purpose, to a specific audience. Proposal Proposals explain a need that is identified and offers a course of action in response to it. A proposal is a document that is prepared for a prospective customer to persuade the prospect to adopt the solution to a problem or the fulfillment of a need proffered in the proposal. Formal report can be categorized as: Informational reports Analytical reports Recommendation reports Informational reports Informational reports present results so readers can understand a particular problem or situation. Present information on the status of current research or project Explain how organization or division does something Analytical reports Analytical reports present results, analyze those results, and draw conclusions based on those results. These reports attempt to describe why or how something happened and then to explain what it means. Explain what cause a problem or situation Suggest which option ,action or procedure is best Recommendation reports This type advocates a particular course of action. This usually presents the results and conclusions that support the recommendations. This type is identical to analytical report. It explains: What should we do about a problem? Should we or can we do something? 2) Informal report An informal report is usually in the form of a person-to-person communiction.It may range from a short, almost fragmentary statement of facts on a single page, to a more developed presentation taking several pages There are many embodiments of informal reports: Informational report Progress and status report Feasibility report Periodic report Troubleshooting report Informational report Informational reports provide data, facts, feedback, and other types of information without analysis or recommendations. Progress and status report Type of informal report that you have to write to explain how much progress is being made on something you have previously planned. It describes an ongoing project. Feasibility report A feasibility report is the results of a feasibility study. This report details whether or not a project should be undertaken and the reasons for that decision. Periodic report These reports allow management to keep track of ongoing operations on a periodic or regular basis. Troubleshooting report These informal reports are used by technicians to convey information regarding the analysis and correction of problems found in industrial products.
