Lean Six Sigma Green Belt
The Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification recognizes
an individual’s ability to identify opportunities for
improvement, objectively and quantitatively analyze
causes and effects, implement valid solutions, and build
tools to sustain improvements
It then becomes incumbent upon the individual to live
up to the new knowledge and skills that they have
acquired

IASSC: Lean Six Sigma Green Belts
The International Association for Six Sigma Certification defines a
Green Belt as:
“A Certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt is a professional who is well
versed in the Lean Six Sigma Methodology who both leads or
supports improvement projects, typically as a part-time role.
A Lean Six Sigma Green Belt possesses a thorough understanding
of all aspects within the phases of D-M-A-I-C. They understand
how to perform and interpret Six Sigma tools and how to use
standard principles of Lean.”

ASQ: Lean Six Sigma Green Belts
The American Society for Quality defines a Green Belt as:
“Six Sigma Green Belts are employees who spend some of their
time on process improvement teams.
They analyze and solve quality problems, and are involved with Six
Sigma, lean or other quality improvement projects.
The Six Sigma Green Belt certification requires three years of work
experience in one or more areas of the Six Sigma Green Belt Body
of Knowledge.”

Candidate: Minimum Expectations
• 3 years of work experience
• Involved in quality improvement projects
• Analyzes and solves quality problems
• Operates in support of, or under the supervision of a Six Sigma Black
Belt
• May have participated in, but not led, a project
• A knowledge of applied statistical analysis is highly recommended,
though not required
• Ability to demonstrate their knowledge of Six Sigma tools and
processes

• In general, the Green Belt’s role in an organization
comes with increased responsibility and expectations
• With a Green Belt’s increased capabilities, they are
tasked with identifying and leading tasks and smaller
projects that focus on achieving the goals of both
their departments and the organization
