BODY SYSTEMS SELF-GUIDED TOUR 2019

Part 1 due: Monday, May 13th / Part 2 due: Wednesday, May15th

You will be watching a series of short, clever videos on the

KidsHealth website in order to learn some basic information about different organ systems of the human body. While some resources suggest there are 7 or 9 human body systems, for our purposes, we will agree that there are 11.

(The nervous system is the master controller of the other

10.)

The website that will serve as the foundation for the “tour” is http://kidshealth.org

Skeletal

MURDERLINCS is a mnemonic

(memory) device for the 11 systems that has worked to help some students remember the names of the 11 systems:

* Please note there is no movie in the Kids section of the site for

the Reproductive or Integumentary systems.

Feel free to conduct research on these two systems using other areas on the website. (i.e. Find some terrific information about the reproductive system in the Teens section of the site.

Also, searching for “skin and hair” in the “Kids” section will bring up an informative article.)

Your task is two-fold:

PART 1: Watch videos related to the body systems on the KidsHealth website (classic or Chloe & the Nurb) and record basic information about each of the systems that you learn about (overall system function/major parts/ association – “Reminds me of…”).

PART 2: Create an Interactive Study Guide to help prepare for the end-of-unit assessment. You might create a Kahoot, or Quizlet, interactive flashcards, a board-game, crossword puzzle, practice test…). We will talk about some ideas for this together in class and some resources to help make the task easier.

As you watch each movie, pay attention to the list of body parts and main ideas that you are responsible for knowing and pause the movie at points in order to be able to take notes about information that is asked for in the large grid you have been given.

REMEMBER THAT YOU CAN CHOOSE TO WATCH MOVIES

FROM THE NEWER “CHLOE AND THE NURB” SERIES OR

THE CLASSIC RETRO MOVIES (OR BOTH)!

In both the Teens and Parents Tabs of the website, there are some great slideshows for each of the body systems and additional articles. Here are the addresses/links: http://kidshealth.org/en/teens/bodybasics.html?WT.ac=ctg#catbody-basics http://kidshealth.org/en/parents/body-basics.html
