Boyle’s Law OBJECTIVES: 1. To verify Boyle's law. 2. To statistically analyze the collected data. EQUIPMENT: MATERIALS: Boyle's law apparatus, overhead projector SAFETY: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. WEAR goggles and apron AT ALL TIMES. DO NOT TASTE ANY CHEMICAL. DO NOT TOUCH ANY CHEMICAL. DO NOT INHALE ANY FUMES. If you get any chemical on yourself, see your instructor immediately. FOLLOW ALL directions both written and oral. PROCEDURE: 1. Set up overhead projector and screen. 2. Disconnect the syringe from pressure gauge on the Boyle's law apparatus. The gauge, connectors, and tubing have a volume of 3.0 cc. Add this value to ALL volume readings. 3. Set the piston at approximately 15 cc. 4. Reconnect the syringe and pressure gauge. 5. Set the apparatus on the overhead projector. 6. Read and record the first pressure and volume values now. 7. Depress the piston 2 cc or less. Read and record BOTH the pressure and volume values to the maximum precision of both the pressure gauge and the syringe. 8. Collect 4 additional sets of data (pressure and volume readings) in the same manner. 9. Allow the piston to return to the initial setting. 10. Withdraw the piston 2 cc or less. Read and record BOTH the pressure and volume values. 11. Collect 4 additional data sets (pressure and volume readings) in the same manner.
