Office 365 Troubleshooting Guide
The following are potential issues that could occur with the Email and Calendar migration to Office
365 along with solutions for resolution.
Problem
Solution
I restarted my Outlook client as instructed
and entered my credentials, the message
Reboot your computer. Open your Outlook Client and
enter your credentials.
“The Microsoft Exchange Administrator has
made a change that requires you to quit and
restart Outlook” appeared again.
I restarted my Outlook Client and entered
my credentials and it is taking a long time to
load.
It may take a long time (30 minutes or more) to load
the first time post migration. Please be patient and
wait for it to load. This will not occur every time you
open your client.
The email, calendar, or contacts on my
mobile device does not appear to be
working.
Delete your current mail account and recreate it. As
an alternative, we recommend using the Microsoft
Outlook application for iOS or Android. It increases
calendaring reliability.
I was asked for my credentials multiple times. It is best to use your email address first.last@yale.edu
when logging into Office 365.
I am not using the Outlook client and my
client is not working.
For staff: IMAP and POP are being disabled. you must
switch to a client that supports Active Sync or
Exchange Web Services such as Microsoft Outlook.
For Faculty and Students: You will need to change
your IMAP/POP settings to:
Server: outlook.o365.com
Port: 993 for IMAP

Problem
Solution
My Office 365 account is not showing my Yale mail.
Be sure to check that you are in the
correct account. You likely also have a
personal Microsoft account or Office
365 account associated with your
@yale.edu email address. You should
change your personal accounts and link
them to a personal email address to
avoid confusion.
Following message displayed: Outlook was redirected to
the server autodiscover-s.outlook.com to get new settings
for your account XXX@yale.edu.mail.onmicrosoft.com. Do
you want to allow this server to configure your settings?
Click "Allow" and then check the box
provided to suppress the message in the
future.
When the migration occurred, I received the following
alerts.
- Error: outlook-running-restart.png
