Here is the list of topics that you’ve been assigned and a brief explanation. You’ll need to cover
the ideas that have listed. Please choose either ONE.

Advertising to Children: Should it be banned? What has and is happening in this
area? Are the sophisticated marketing research and tools, which can segment and
target children, unethical? Under what circumstances? What are the newest
regulations regarding advertising to children? Review the guidelines for advertising to
children and then look at children's television on Saturday morning or after school.
Does the programming follow the guidelines? What issues are raised here?

Cigarette Advertising and/or alcoholic beverage advertising: Should these
potentially harmful product advertisements be banned? What is their influence on
minors, minorities, and the disadvantaged? How do these ideas square with First
Amendment rights? What is the future of advertising for cigarettes? Are there issues
of fairness here?
iii.
Male and Female Sexual Images and Portrayals: Are these images harmful to
women? To men? What is the history of this area? What is being done in other
countries? Are there any differences in terms of targeting certain ethnic groups? Are
there issues of fairness? Advertising responsibility? What are the issues?
You are required to;
 Find the issues? Who is concerned with the issue; in other words, who are the stakeholders
and what are their perspectives?
 What has been the history of your issue, where is it going? Is it being legislated?
 What are the ethical considerations? What is being done? What can or should be
done?
 What is the Malaysia perspective on your topic? Can you find examples of ads that
represent the ethical issue in Malaysia?
