SCHEDULING PROCESS-FOCUSED FACILITIES SCHEDULING PROCESS-FOCUSED FACILITIES These are also known as intermittent or job-shop facilities. These are high-variety, low-volume systems commonly found in manufacturing and service organizations. These are production systems in which products are made to order. SCHEDULING PROCESS-FOCUSED FACILITIES To run a facility in a balanced and efficient manner, the manager needs a production planning and control systems: 1. Schedule incoming orders without violating capacity constraints 2. Check availability of tools and materials before releasing an order 3. Establish due dates for each job and check progress 4. Check work in progress 5. Provide feedback 6. Provide work efficiency statistics and monitor times SCHEDULING PROCESS-FOCUSED FACILITIES Whether the scheduling system is manual or automated, it must be accurate and relevant. This means it requires a production database with both planning and control files. Three types of planning files are: 1. An item master file contains information about each component 2. A routing file indicates each component’s flow through the shop 3. A work-center master file contains information about the work center Planning Files Control Files: Track the actual progress made against the plan
