How to set up Fast-mail your
Android phone?
Did you know: FastMail has an excellent Android app which many of our
users prefer to other mail apps. See our mobile app help for more details.
Android apps needs their own app password to access your information. If
you use your normal password or your FastMail two step
verification password on an external account, syncing to an external
service won't work and you will see a password error.

Email – Mail (default mail application in Android 5.x Lollipop and
Android 6.x Marshmallow) Email – Mail (native mail application,
available in Android 4.x and earlier)


Set up your email - Gmail
Open the Gmail app.
1. If you don't already have an account set up, the Account setup dialog
appears
2. Otherwise, open the app's menu, scroll down to Settings
and tap Add Account.
Set the email type to Personal (IMAP/POP)
1. Enter your email address: this is your full FastMail username,
including the domain.
2. Enter your app password. (What's an App Password?)
3. Set the incoming server settings.

Server is imap.fastmail.com
Security type is SSL/TLS.
4. Set the server settings for outgoing mail.

Server is smtp.fastmail.com
Security type is SSL/TLS
Password should be pre-filled: it's your app password. (What's App
Password?)
1. The server will verify your settings, then allow you to configure the
account options and set your name. You're ready to go!
Set up your email – Mail
The native Android Email app is available only if you are on a device running an
operating system earlier than Lollipop If you are on Lollipop or later, you will need
to use the Gmail
Configuration instructions.
1. Open the Email app. If you don't already have an account set up, the Account
setupdialog. should appear. Otherwise, open the app's menu, then go
to Settings and tap Add Account.
2. Fill in your email address and password:

Email address: Your full FastMail username, including the domain.
Password: Your app password. (What's an App Password?)

Tap Next.
2. Tap IMAP.
Change the server, port and security type for your incoming mail:




Server: imap.fastmail.com
Port: 993
Security type: SSL/TLS
IMAP path prefix: (leave blank) This setting may not appear on older
Android phones. If you don't see it, don't worry, it'll still work fine.
Your screen should look like this:
Tap Next.
1. Change the security type for your outgoing mail:

Security type: SSL/TLS
o
* Port*: Change to 465
Your screen should look like this:
1. Tap Next.
2. If you like, change the Inbox checking frequency (or leave it set to the
default every 15 minutes), then tap Next.
3. Fill in your name:
o
Your name: The name people will see on the email you send.
Tap Next.
Your FastMail account is now ready to use.
Set up your calendar
Android does not support CalDAV natively, however you can easily add
support by installing a CalDAV sync adapter. We have tested and
recommend CalDAV-Sync, which is approximately $3. Once you have
added your account in CalDAV-Sync, you can use the native Android
calendar or any other calendar app and the changes will sync with
FastMail.
You will need to use an app password when configuring the app.

Android does not support CardDAV natively, however you can easily add
support by installing a CardDAV sync adapter. We have tested and
recommend CardDAV-Sync, which is approximately $3. Once you have
added your account in CardDAV-Sync, you can use the native Android
contacts or any other contacts app and the changes will sync with FastMail.

automatically get copied back up to FastMail with the sync: you need
to import them to FastMail first.
