This post will show you how to deploy the new NetApp ONTAP 9.1 simulator on a VMware vSphere 6.5 host.
After releasing a post on how to run the setup with Data ONTAP 8.3 (please find here (h ps://vmstorageguy.wordpress.com/2015/08
/18/netapp-ontap-simulator-8-3-how-to/)) I thought its worth to write another one as NetApp really changed the simulator in terms of
capacity as well as the setup process.
Ge ing the required Software
1. Login to support.netapp.com with your credentials
2. Go to “Download – Software” and click on “Data ONTAP Simulator”
(h ps://vmstorageguy.files.wordpress.com/2015/08/1.png)
3. Accept the license agreements and terms and conditions.

Importing the virtual appliance to VMware ESXi
1. Open your VMware vSphere Client. As of today the Webclient does not support so you have to use the desktop client for the import.
2. Click “File – Deploy OVF Template”

3. Finally click on next to move to the network se ings.
4. In the network section you need to define a network layout. It is recommended to set a range of IPs (in my case 172.16.3.2 – 172.16.3.10)
and use the “Apply Sequentially”. With that ONTAP will apply IPs based on the need.

5. Finally you can define AutoSupport as well as system backup and additional notification se ings. You need to define at least on “Event
