Aina Sahira Binti Azhar , 2018429584 Nur Auni Shakirah Binti Azllee , 2018278914 Nursyamimi Binti Mohamad Munir , 2018410958 ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is a relationship between the transportation provided by Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Alor Gajah Campus Malacca branch to the students. It is important for a student to have their transportation in the campus in order to further explore the transport that a student like the most and what characteristic of the transportation that can attract the students. The sample consists of participants that are currently studying in different age, knowledge and experience. Data was gathered through a structure of questionnaire from a sample of respondents. The data collection is collected from the students of UiTM Alor Gajah are also analyzed by using reliability test of independent variables related toward dependent variable, correlational analysis and descriptive analysis. Thus the finding shows that there is positive relationship between transportation provided and students. Thus it is assumed that there is a moderate positive relationship between the transportation provided by UITM and students. CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background of the study While several studies have been conducted to measure respective issues regarding transportation, a small number has been done to determine the effectiveness of shuttle services as the service is fixed to certain organizations. Based on Oxford Dictionary, transportation means a vehicle or method of travel. Transportation also means the system of buses trains, etc. provided for people to travel from one place to another. Distinct communities such as university campuses provides a place for people with different background, culture, income and lifestyle to come together to work, study and live. The campuses are usually self-contained community and area where offices, classrooms, student centres, sport arenas, art galleries and college residence that are gathered accessibly. Universiti Teknologi Mara ( UiTM) Alor Gajah Campus in Malacca branch provides college residence or hostels for most of the qualified students from the first semester to the final semester students. However, several of the hostels are located quite far from the academic centre and other facilities around the campus. This arises problems for the students who do not own any transportation vehicle. These students have to either walk more than 1 km daily or take the shuttle services accommodation that is provided by the management of the university itself. Albeit, the shuttle services provided is a private company and has no links with the university excepting the lease. 1.2 Problem or issue arise regarding the topic Universiti Teknologi Mara ( UiTM ) is notable for its service and facilities for the students. Aside from that, every service has it’s pros and cons by the reviewers. The students may or may not be aware on the possibility of effectiveness shuttle services are in their daily lives. Therefore, the problem statement is one the major issues that would be defined in the research. Is there a research conducted that focuses on the transportation services provided by Universiti Teknologi Mara ( UiTM) Alor Gajah Campus, Malacca Branch? There may not be a complete thorough study on this as the shuttle services is recently introduced. What are the opinions and factors of the usage of shuttle services among students? Does the students have any platform to voice out their thoughts and complaints regarding the effectiveness of the shuttle services, this study will provide with the basis analysis data. Whom can this research benefit to and what are the benefits? The conducted study will smoothen the organization of any parties that will gain the advantages. 1.3 Objectives conducting the study The researcher recommends the future research of the relationship between the transportation provided by UiTM and students. 1. The study provides a direction for future study as the future research can also be conducted to examine the transportation services provided by the university. 2. The study should test the results on different opinions and factors to the usage of shuttle services among students to analyze whether there is different perspectives. 3. Conducting the research to increase the effectiveness of the shuttle services around UiTM to facilitate and ease the students, the management of UiTM itself and the shuttle services provider. 1.4 Significant of the study Significance of the study may include the meaning of the research work to the researcher and how this study benefits or impacts to others in part or in whole. Apart from that, this study also may give knowledge to students today about transportation, so that they can bring new perspective to transportation that are provided by University Teknologi Mara ( UiTM ). The project goal is designed to help students improve academic competence, develop employability skills, and getting more information regarding shuttle services. Other than that, in daily life the management of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) helped to solve transportations problems among students and also helped the shuttle company’s organization members to develop their work in community . 1.5 Limitation of the study This study may be viewed with a few limitations of the scope of our primary research and it only limits with three factor of studying environment such as student’s commitment, different opinions and available facilities . This is due to time constraints that faced by researchers. In addition, this study will also take lots of time to test the relationship between the independent variables what the shuttles have provided which is satisfaction among students, support and available facilities and dependent variable which is employee’s job performance. Besides , this study was primarily limited by the small sample size which is the number of sample units that are selected for data collection . This is because Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Alor Gajah Campus Malacca branch have more than 8,000 of students that it was diverse enough to give image of three factor of studying environment related with the job performance . The data collection would have increase the time needed to survey more participants and data can collect by interview , questionnaire and observe. CHAPTER TWO LITERATURE REVIEW 2.1 Literature Review regarding the topic CHAPTER THREE METHODOLOGY 3.1 Population of the study According to Parahoo ( 2006 ) describes population as “ the total number of units from which data is collected”, such as individuals, artifacts, events or organizations. Researcher’s target populations are students from University Technology Mara Malacca Branch, Alor Gajah Campus. Therefore , the total of populations of this study encompasses 120 students that are currently studying at University Technology Mara Malacca Branch, Alor Gajah Campus . The population describes the participant who will take part in this study . Faculty Population Business Management 20 Accounting 20 Art and Design 20 Hotel and Tourism Management 20 Communication and Media Studies 20 Academy of Language Studies 20 3.2 Instrument of the study Based on e-Source Behavioral & Social Science Research, instrument is a tool for regularly implementing a scientific protocol for gaining data from respondents. Most of surveys, the instrument involves a questionnaire that contributes a script of presenting a set of questions and response option. The questionnaire will be designed and named as “The Effectiveness of Shuttle Services in University Technology Mara Malacca Branch, Alor Gajah Campus. This questionnaire is contributed into three sections, which is section A, B and C. The section A consist of demographic profile. This section appropriated respondents to indicate their gender, age, course involved and faculty. Furthermore, section B is about the factor of transportation and usage of shuttle services among UITM students. The questionnaire includes several variables such as one’s judgement, the speed, reliability, availability and affordability that can affect the usage of shuttle services and the effectiveness. This section, the respondents are required to tick on their appropriate answers. The last section subsist of questions on the respondents opinion of shuttle services. To measure respondent’s response, researchers are using likert scale to measure the entire variable. Therefore, only Section C based on likert scale which is ( 1 = Strongly disagree , 2 = Disagree , 3 = Neither agree or disagree , 4 =Agree , 5 = Strongly agree ) . 3.3 Data collection method Method of data collection is begin with get the permission from Madam Wan Aisyah Amni Bt Wan Mohd Saferdin to do this study in University Technology Mara Malacca Branch, Alor Gajah Campus and commit the questionnaires to the students. Researcher will submit the permission letter before the study is done. After the permission were approve, the researcher inquiry to do this study and investigate the students about the effectiveness of shuttle services in University Technology Mara Malacca Branch, Alor Gajah Campus by contribute the questionnaire. After researcher get the response from the respondents , the data will key in by the researcher to do a report of what they get. Researcher were deliberated is there have any significant the effectiveness of shuttle services .
