PRINCESS SUMAYA UNIVERSITY FOR TECHNOLOGY King Talal School of Business Technology Project Guideline Semester 2 - 2018/2019 Course Name Assessment Submission Due Date Tourism Marketing Sunday, 28th April 2019 Course No. Weight Word Count 35422 15% 1500 Project Brief: In this assignment you will develop your online profile by maintaining a blog about the tourism sector in Jordan. You will first need to research the various blogging platforms (not micro-blogs like Twitter) and set up a blog (for example Wordpress) or a video blog (for example a Youtube channel). An introduction of no more than 500 words must be included which explains the theme of your blog, why did you choose this theme and why did you choose this particular platform (I want to see a theme!) You should aim to blog at least once a week, but for this assignment you only need to submit UP TO FOUR blog posts that together are no more than 1500 words. If you have posted more than four times and 1500 words (and again, you are strongly encouraged to) you should select what you think are the most interesting posts to submit for assessment. A video blog might be timed at 150-160 words equivalent for each minute. So this would be total of 10 minutes of video. Engagement: You may encourage participation in your blog. It is suggested that you avoid engineering only ‘friendly’ comments from people you know. Try to drive organic traffic and engagement (please don’t worry about this a lot). Choosing Your Topics: You are free to post whatever you like on your blog, but for this course and assessment we are only interested in posts relating to your reflections on tourism marketing issues (for example as discussed in the lecture and through your own research). In addition to the course material, business news outlets and the trade press, including other blogs, are good sources for ideas about what to write. You are highly encouraged to draw from your own experience. PLEASE BE CREATIVE AND IMAGINATIVE. Think of the readers and what might interest and engage them. Page 1 of 3 Format: The exact format and titles of blogs are up to you, but consider: a clear introduction that defines the scope of your post and captures the audiences’ attention; a body to the post that elaborates the tackled topic and includes illustrative examples if possible, and; a conclusion that states what you want the audience to get from the post, including an invitation to post a comment. You should illustrate with original examples (if possible). Link to other content and other blogs as appropriate Be focused in your posts, developing just one idea in each. Kindly Note… You will need to then maintain your blog throughout the semester, but you of course are encouraged to continue with the blog throughout your course and beyond. To sum up, what I am asking you to demonstrate: • • • • • • That you have knowledge of contemporary marketing practice, more specifically in the tourism sector. That you have reflected on your own learning. That you have reflected on the value of blogging as a marketing professional That you can draw from your own experience to support your arguments with original examples (if applicable). That you can write about marketing in an engaging way that prompts comments from others. That you can manage your time to maintain a blog. Submission: The final electronic version of the project should be saved and submitted on e-Learning in a PDF format. This should include the introduction, the selection of posts which you think are the most interesting to submit for assessment and a reference list of reference materials used. Also make sure to include the URL of your blog page. For those who are thinking of running a Vlog, you might need to submit the original videos on a USB drive if e-learning doesn’t support video files submissions. * Kindly note that this assignment will be marked anonymously, therefore please ensure that your name does not appear on any part of your submitted version on e-learning.
